Two things I noticed when shopping in ALDI and Tesco today:
1) 90% wore masks - surprising
2) the flour shelves were empty - not surprising, but at least I picked up the last two packs!
I guess we'll soon be back to the Covid days of homebaking  |

I'm still wearing my mask, covid is still doing the rounds, it hadn't miraculously fecked off, know a few people who have been hit hard with it and they healthy fit people.
Havebt noticed the flour but did notice the cheap brand toilet roll was all gone at the weekend lol |

877 cases in hospitals with Covid currently. It was about 500 a month ago. ICU rates not rising yet but there would be a lag of a few weeks normally until that kicks in. Fingers crossed that won't happen massively. |

Flour is an issue due to supply lines being disturbed with the war in Ukraine. Not surpised by the amount I saw wearing masks last week. Wish more would have worn them as i might not have caught covid last week if they were. |

Last week ALDI was at about 60% mask wearing (with a quick scan), this week it has shot up to almost 100%. |

This time last week about 10% of people in my local shop wearing masks. Today it was definitely about 50% but mainly the older generation.
Was on luas on Sunday afternoon it was packed and only about 5 people wearing masks. Interesting to see what its like this weekend.

About 5 people wearing them on a packed luas on Sunday afternoon on the green line.
Granted peoples attitude have changed possibly last few days with the rise in numbers as witnessed In my local tesco at lunchtime, it surprised me at least 50/50 were wearing them, considering last week it was about 1/5.
I will be in a packed church tomorrow, i will report back here with my findings

Although they allowed removing masks, they still advised wearing them, it was suggested common sense would prevail... but |

As previously stated Ukraine are the leading providers of wheat in Europe for both bread and animal feeds with the current way it will be in short supply but it is also going to have a knock on effect for a few years because this year's crop will more than likely fail due to lack of man power and the war in itself. Irish farmers are been asked to grow some but with the rising prices its no feasible and there is no irish mill in operation anymore so would need to be exported to become a finished product. |

There is no shortage of wheat, it is more fear mongoring.
Harvest is Aug - Sept.
Sowing is April-ish.
So this year's harvest is a long way away still.

I always wonder when people panic buy and stack up the larder, how much of it will end up in the bin. I remember the bread panic buying few ears ago because of a snow storm approaching. I mean there's only that much bread you can eat in a few days and it either goes stale or mouldy.
The same with flour, it will go off unless you bake on a regular basis or in the Irish climate more likely, it goes mouldy.
So my best guess is that loads of panic food will end in the bin.
At least the pandemic panic toilet paper won't go to waste... oh hang on...

One in Dublin (primary school) she told me most are wearing masks in the school (even the classes that didn't have to before) secondary school child said here in Kildare maybe 10 pupils in their year aren't wearing masks (troublemakers who didn't wear them properly in the first place)
Dee works in another county in a customer facing role. 3 of her staff of 12 aren't wearing masks while most of her customers are wearing masks. Surveys are being conducted currently about people wearing masks by a friend of mine doing his masters. 85% of his respondants are wearing masks dues to covid being an ongoing issue. His survey is ongoing and will be for another few months but has had nearly 80 people respond online so far. |

Funny. Just spent 40 mins in Forbidden Planet at the Liffey. I think maybe i saw two people wearing masks out of at least 200 people who were in an out of the shop while i was there.
Was in Stephens green shopping centre as well, a mighty 1 to every 10 people wearing them. Thats been generous obviously.
Why dont you drop in have a look yourself.
As for the Church I was in, i know you dont care but out of 200 people in attendance. 3 people that i could see were wearing them. Even the priest wasnt.
Maybe its a Dublin thing? |

I quit bread many years ago, Dirk joined me from October.
Neither of us looking back.
Occasional sourdough bloomer or nice special fresh loaf now and then with some homemade soup is our hight of bread or anything flour related consumption.
Kids love their crepes, so we do always keep a bag of flour handy

It's not a Dublin thing. I rarely see people wearing them now. Yes there is dome but not as much as when we where forced to wear them. |

Well, we quit not only bread - rice, potatoes, added sugar and everything with starchy carbs.
We do eat:
Meat, vegetables, eggs, cheeses, fruit, more vegetables, crazy amounts of olive oil and butter
Since October Dirk lost all weight he put on in last 3 years.
I am not as active for obvious reasons, so mine is shifting slower.
That aside - our diet is now full of good nutrients and vitamins that no bread would ever replace |
