I don't play it and apart from watching The Queen's Gambit I know nothing about rules or strategies.
From the little knowledge I do have though I've often thought that life is like a game of chess with long periods of contemplation and short bursts of movement.
Some people are limited in how far they can move and in what direction while others only move when it benefits other pieces on the board.
Are you a reliable rook, a king among men, a queen (drama or otherwise), or a pawn?
Do you spend your life moving sideways or are you capable of the odd diagonal dash?
Or do you think you approach life more like a game of dominos? |

I know very little about chess, and I haven't yet watched The Queen's Gambit, but I do sometimes think that life is a bit like a game, or as the Shakespearean quote goes: "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players..." I think we each have our roles, self-assigned or otherwise, and we identify as certain key players; some more driven by getting to the so-called end of the game by any means possible, while others are prepared to make sacrifices if it means that others may get there, too.
Personally, I don't like to focus too much on the supposed end goal, as I think it can blind you to what is in front of you in the present and, while security would be important for me, it isn't something I would seek out by any means possible. |

Bloody hate monopoly. Who wants all those bloody houses and semi-state bodies anyways?"
So you’d be fully in favour of throwing the board across the room then. |

Dont think I ever planned out anything with my life once I left school
At that time it was get a job,get married buy a house
Since then I've reacted more to whats going on around me than making a move and seeing what happens
I've ended up mostly happy and my own boss ....definitely not planned |

I've always disliked strategy games and am more suited to thinking on my feet.
That allows me to anticipate and avoid people and situations without long term planning.
It worked perfectly during 25 years in management even when those in other departments spent half their working day drawing up plans and couldn't understand why they were always 2 steps behind.
I applied the same principle in search and rescue which is why I'm no longer involved with those that couldn't move away from the rigid strategies they had been using for 40 years.
Draughts is a much less complicated game but with a similar outcome. |

Too many variables to plan, I think I just make it up as I go along…..
I don’t think chess takes so long because of the strategic planning, I think everyone is just trying to remember the rules….. 
But just like riding a bicycle, in order to have balance you must keep moving…. |

My life as a board game ? Probably Monopoly , you're in the mix and it takes good advice to get to where you want to , you have decisions to make ,but you have to listen to it , they don't reach that age for nothing you know . |

My life as a board game ? Probably Monopoly , you're in the mix and it takes good advice to get to where you want to , you have decisions to make ,but you have to listen to it , they don't reach that age for nothing you know ."

Life, in my opinion and from my long experience, is significantly more complex than a board game like chess;
I much prefer to understand and resolve real life issues for both myself and others.
I would not waste my time 'playing games' when there are so many more valuable things that I can devote my valuable, finite time to.
Board games just do not motivate me, nor inspire me into action.
My cognitive processes are more organic and dynamic. |

Loved the Queens Gambit...
My son is into chess. I play (and lose) against him...he knows all the moves and is able to name and plan them. I on the other hand am winging it just thinking one move ahead being spontaneous and hoping for the best. It’s who I am. |
