Years ago while on the sites, if the rain stayed down till noon and there was no sign of it stopping we were put on "wet time" and allowed to leave on one third/ one half pay. Some of my best days were in rainy weather playing 25 to 12 and then to the pub.
Do such "wet days" still happen? What was your happiest wet day? |

Never had one. The vast majority of my working life has been spent on the road driving 1000-1500 miles a week.In 38 years there's only been one day that I wasn't able to get out because of the weather and I spent that day in the office on the phone. |

Wet time is the law, however builder s abd their subbies ignore the law.
There was a time you paid a wet time stamp,
Of course because that made it statutory they got rid of that.
BATU used to be a great militant union, and insured that all the members got travelling time, wet time.
If you want decent conditions on a Irish building site, be prepared to fight for them.

Yeah back in the day of my apprenticeship we had wet days
Wait in the canteen until a certain time and then head home on pay
Thats only if the site was exposed and as I was an electrician there wasn't too many sites like that |
