Just saw the new Gardaí uniform and I’m not liking it! It’s like something you’d see from a soap opera down under!!

So what’s our favourite uniform these days?! I’m loving the khaki green military or the construction snickers…

Newry Down

The Garda uniform is remarkably similar to the new PSNI uniform, probably as long-term preparation for a future time when personnel from both organisations will be wearing the same uniform.

Uniforms of police forces in westernised countries are becoming remarkably generic; it's part of a modernising, utilitarian trend. Forces invite uniform submissions from manufacturers which then emulate the newest uniforms available; an incremental trend away from staid collar and tie of the past.

The outfits will be accepted, and the work behind the scenes and public facing will remain unchanged.

I like the new formats: modern, clean lines, attractive, and probably cheaper to purchase.

All the boxes have been ticked.

Cork

They don't look that professional to me, but if they are more comfortable and cheaper, it doesn't sound like a bad deal

Looks like a more practical to tactical approach. Comfortable, can do the job better in it.

Dublin / Cork

I actually like the new jackets . Very European . Almost like something you would see the Dutch / German or Spanish police wear . Polo shirts look a bit cheap to be fair but overall it will be more practical .

Think the whole thing looks like something youd pick up in Guineys. Im all for modernisation, but does it have to be ugly?

South Side.

I havnt seen the new garda uniform yet. I prefer army gear, well fitted, worn by an athletic, fit, tanned soldier .

Seen the new uniform press release today, I think it looks well and I think the PSNI’s new uniform looks amazing to, have a friend that’s in the psni and he said the new uniform is amazing as there was nothing as hateful as chasing someone through a back garden wearing a shirt, tie, body armor and a belt with all his gear lol he loves the new uniform lol

"nothing as hateful as chasing someone through a back garden wearing a shirt, tie, body armor and a belt with all his gear"

Can confirm.

New uniform is a step in the right direction. Hat needs to go though.

Na, that’s a fleece, pretty sure uniforms have to be manufactured…..

Otherwise, does that mean all pigeon’s or crows are sheep too?

Or do they have a separate uniform?

Very confusing…..

At first i wasn't sure but it's definitely more comfortable for the guards i would imagine and easier to manage not as much ironing involved. Maybe it doesn't look as professional as the current one but times are changing. Still my favourite to date though.
