Hi all. I just recently sent someone a message. Chatting away. All going fine. They are local to me and ask for a face pic to which i naively (maybe) decide to send one. They than write back to me with my full name and say i know you and no you're too close to home.
Thoughts on this?
Should someone name you like that if they recognise you on fab? It seems as if they are the one with the issue of being on the site when they went to the trouble of spelling out my name? Is this funny? Is it rude? Is it neither? Thoughts?? |

Its neither....they haven't outed you publicly...not that you're doing anything wrong in the first place
The best thing to do is block and move on
Would you rather they named themselves to you also |

Yeah i don't see why I would block them either. Nothing to be ashamed of here. Done nothing wrong. Just think it is odd personally to have to spell out my name. I know my name and don't need reminding ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

I had a guy message constantly saying he seen me in my local supermarket, was creepy. I've had messages from guys local to me and I just no thanks and move on. I be more concerned if there was threats etc made the person possibly meant no harm. Forget it and move on. |

The way they phrased it to you sounded a bit odd/threatening but it's fine for someone to say they know you and if they'd be uncomfortable meeting because of that. They're on here for the exact same reasons as you after all ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

They put ur name in the message to simply enforce that they knew u in vanilla and dont want to engage here
If they had just said sorry we know u it could have went a number of ways with u replying how do they know u or simply replying oh no u dont
They know u they simply repeated ur name to u id say let it slide dont think about it and block them so as not to cause each other discomfort |

It doesn't sound like they had poor intentions. Take it at face value - they know you bc you're too close to home and therefore don't want to meet you.
There was no threat to expose you.
Take the lesson and check distances before you send a pic. |

Interesting to see how the responses here stack up against those in other threads where a woman has received exactly the same type of message.
The fact they not only said they knew you but made a point of naming you to confirm it is a veiled threat in itself.
If the op was a woman they would be arseholes for doing that. The fact that he's not a woman shouldn't matter and their reaction shouldn't be taken lightly. |

From experience with people recognising it's best to just block and ignore. Have been recognised by quite a few here, even had my parents old address and my full name given in chat room unfortunately all can do is block and leave it at that. Hopefully the person it was is discreet and will leave it be |

I can respect that whoever you were already chatting to got cold feet and didn't want you knowing they're on here.
There has been a few people I already know in real life that found me here and just assumed that because I'm on fab - I'll be glad to have sex with them (yes, some men have that logic, go figure), so if I can avoid chatting to someone I know from real life - I do.
What I find extremely childish is random profiles messaging me my name or even someone else's name (thinking I'm someone else) and not telling me who they are.
Like just don't message at all if you're not prepared to tell me who you are. (Obviously I don't know you op and i don't mean specifically you) |

This.
Been told I am someone specific that clearly I am not.
Or being recognised by someone that doesn't have the balls to tell me who they are. Also for them to recognise me from 10+ years ago wow. I feel flattered.

Not sure what was going through their head. That's not a nice situation regardless. We've had a similar situation with a guy we recognised and we just said it's a bit close to home for us.
Maybe it's possible they gave you your name so you would 100% know too that you are chatting with someone who knows you. |

Think it's a shitty thing to do to someone. Either they should have said nothing and replied no thanks not for us or said oh I know you here is my picture |

I was at a wedding once and got recognised, he mailed me telling me what I was wearing and even said he laughed when my friends husband took my shoe off and hide it behind the bar, was going to approach me but thought I was with my husband it was my dad.
Also got followed round tesco another time ![](/icons/s/2/eh.gif) |

We simply dont exchange face pics, too many nutjobs/people with agendas/utter lack of discretion. It's clearly stated on our profile. |

Have had the exact same thing happen to me by my ex Boss (and his wife)
It was very much "I know all about you but you don't know me". I didn't sleep well that night but then tweeked it the next day with...
"Yes, indeed S, thanks for giving me discretion as discretion is a two way street. Do enjoy your 9.30am Sunday run!"
...was the first time ever he didn't have the last word! Op it can be horrible when it happens but as long as you're not attached, you've nothing to be ashamed of here as let's face it, they're most likely here for the very same thing So chin up and chest out Mr Sultan of Swing!

I work with a guy that's on fab and we have a great laugh at the messages we get and the drama that goes on here. I'm not embarrassed to be on here. Nor do I hide the fact that I'm here.
But the person who knows you most likely has something to hide or dosnt want it known that they're on fab. I wouldn't go blocking them as it might cause offence but I would just take their message as they're not interested and I'd move on. |

I don't really see what the issue is. They spelt your name - to prove they know you - and let you down gently by saying you lived too close. I would think that they do not want anyone who knows them knowing their little secret - that they are on Fab.
Can't understand why you would need to know them, unless you don't want them stalking you, and your veri's |

The point is they really have no need to put his real name into a message. Some people would be scared and intimidated by that. |

If someone asks for a face photo they should at least send one first out of courtesy. Unfortunately you've learned the hard way here. Lots like I don't send face pics anymore as something like this can be abused and can be a little too risky. Their response revealing your name made you uncomfortable and thats not a nice feeling so maybe then you should block them, So none of your content or fab activities are known to them. |
