My 24 year old felt triggered when watching it and couldn't believe how bad it was in those days and was blown away when I told her it was like watching a Disney version of the reality.
It's heavily sanitised but harmless. |

Oh definitely, it really didn't go anywhere near the actual full scale but I guess it was only a 12 rating and was more to do with the family staying or leaving. I really enjoyed Buddy, he was a wee star. The aerial camera work over Belfast at the start and end was great to see |

Buddy was great and deserves to win an award. I enjoyed it for what it was but as one reviewer said on the radio I was waiting on something to happen and it never did.
In reality if there had been a Van Morrison soundtrack to what really went on it would have ended much sooner with both sides united in anger ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Incredulously sanitised
It’s watchable- just about - but utter fluff and very much unrepresentative of that period I’d guess for the vast majority of people’s lives.
It is trying to be smaulchy (or maybe not even trying (worryingly so) but that’s the effect)
The band/singing/dancing scene after the funeral was bizarre almost to the point of me wondering was it’s deliberately cringey slapstick.
Best acting was the young lad and then Balfe and Dench. Not much acting needed for Dornan
Really really bland and uneventful essentially - but if you’re disgustingly bored and have money and time to waste, then have at it ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Great film from a memory of a kid leaving Belfast, tho I'm sure he kept something's out or its been watered down. If you're thinking it's going to be b**bs and guns flying about like a die hard film, then....NO. BBC rewind is what you want. |

"Has anyone seen the new Belfast Film?
Just wondering if it's worth going to see as I've heard mixed reviews about it" thinking the same doesn't look great in trailer lol |

Just read an interview with Eamon Holmes and be brought up an interesting point about the film.
There were no black teachers or Indian corner shops in Belfast in 1969. He also said there were no Chinese kids in primary schools back then either although in my experience there were just a few years later.
All of the above were added as ethnic minorities to the storyline in order to get funding to make the film.

It's old style movie with modern filming techniques. I really liked it but can understand why others wouldn't. Thought Judy Dench was seriously miscast, should have been Brenda Fricker. Ciaran Hinds and Catriona Balfe and the kid were excellent ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

I enjoyed it even in black and white Jamie Doran is my daddy was 10 in 1969 Belfast and his family considered a move to Australia and in fact some of his family did move and still remain there today there are lots of tiny facts that I guess only make sense to someone who experienced it but it does ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Well, honestly, I watched it at home but on big screen, so same, well, better, pauses allowed for toilet breaks
Cinema for Death on the Nile this week was a great experience
Great to be out of house "

We thought it was good. I particularly liked the fact that it was from the perspective of a young protestant family. Heavily sanitised as mentioned, but it is trying to reach a younger audience which is great as the schools teach them nothing. Worth a watch for sure. |
