Russian war games

Have the Russians moved their war games onto Irish territory?
Wasn't that the issue with Shannon? Shannon is on Irish territory.
Also, what the US was doing at the time was illegal under international law. What the Russians are doing unfortunately isn't illegal. |

It's a power play, meant to taunt the EU.
Ireland has no primary radar and Russia has been invading our airspace for years as means of taunting.
We are the weakest link in Europe's defence, if something were to happen.
I don't think it will though,it's just a taunt.
However I do think they'll invade Ukraine Post Olympics.
The question is can the EU Survive without Russian gas? I've read quite a bit and it seems it won't have to much of an affect overall, and will more so affect Russia and it's Failing economy. |

I would be more concerned about the long-term effects these war games will have on sensitive marine ecosystems. military sonar exercises actually kill marine wildlife! Unfortunately for many whales, dolphins and other marine life, the use of underwater sonar (short for sound navigation and ranging)
Recent studies suggest that noise pollution can harm whales directly by damaging their hearing, and in extreme cases, causing internal bleeding and death. More commonly, it appears that excessive or prolonged noise can cause behavioral changes that interfere with the health and survival of the animals. |

Oh no! I have just stopped being fearful of the Covid pandemic; and now I am being encouraged to be fearful of Russia's potential invasion of the Ukraine.
The superpowers are continuously posturing and playing war games, spying on each other and subjugating their people, albeit under different terms: capitalism, socialism, communism, etc. |

Plain and simple thing is that any country in the world that wanted to invade us would have no problem doing so,, a few military planes, god knows how many basic tanks, a few navy boats, and a bit of an army,, we would be sitting ducks,, we here for the taking. Lol |

The Irish navy would send a boat out to confront the Russians, however it was decided by the time they rowed to the site the Russians would have finished their training and would be drinking vodka oh shore leave back in the mother land |

Gotta love the Irish fishermen planning on disrupting these so called games. 27 European nations sitting around a table wondering wtf are we gonna do and the fishermen are just gonna sail right up and interrupt them. Sometimes the simplest solution is the best. Well done lads if ye pull it off. |

No chance Ireland will be invaded, we’re far to valuable as a strategic position for any of our “friends” to allow that to happen, westerly tip of Europe, next stop America…. No chance….
I’d be far more worried about the marine damage they’re doing with these mickey swinging games, bunch of pricks the lot of them…..
Mind you, if they promised to lower taxes and the cost of living, and promised to fix the housing circus and the health system, they’d probably be welcomed……
(And yes, I meant to type “circus” in there)…… |

You're right that a military exercise isn't going to turn into an invasion of Ireland
... but not because we are of some strategic importance from a military point of view. We are not. We are one of little to no strategic importance. |

Just a believer in peace, even the hawks know that an actual war is suicidal, and don't we have enough issues anyway? |

We just aren't of any strategic significance for Russia or for anyone else really. We don't have great natural resources. We aren't a threat to anyone. We are historically neutral. We would be no graat show of force for anyone. No reason to invade. |

More so, we are no longer a great launching pad for a further invasion into the UK, you could land in Scotland with the same resistance as you'd face here. And of course our infrastructure is dire |

The only useful facilities we have here are a few airports and deepwater harbours, and plentiful food. Nobody needs to take over the whole country, with the resources that would require. Lets invite them in, trade with them, and make a lot of money. Weve been doing this for centuries. |

We are a net importer of food... but yes. Small island nations are dependent on trade |

And there you go, just like that, Russia is to relocate planned military drills so they take place outside Ireland's Exclusive Economic Zone…..
Well done to the fishermen who in no doubt played a part…. |

More than 'played a part' - no-one would have known it even happened if it wasnt for them taking issue. |
