I am a big fan of Andrew Solomon . He is a superb author on all things to do with mood .
He has a chapter in the moth about having cold water thrown at him in Africa and how it made him feel Alive.
He said he is not sure why sitting people in darkened rooms to discuss traumatic events would make more sense than doing this |

I didnt shower for 4 days to avoid it.. lol.. it is a hard thing to do & your body & mind want to fight it (like not showering for 4 days) but in fairness you do feel amazing after doing it.. |

I'm a massive fan of cold showers! Great way to start the day and would recommend to anyone. Anything between 3-5 mins for me and I'm a new man coming out but yeah, start at 30 seconds and slowly build it up.
I think there's a mixture of the cold water getting the heart rate up and also the feeling of accomplishment of having completed it to be honest. Like most things that you dread doing, once complete you feel good about yourself!
Also did Wim's breathing exercises for a few months but I let that slide after a while as hasn't the patience for it...which is probably why I should be doing it more tbh
All in all, Wim is a good man and I would recommend giving it a go...what have you to lose? |

Its amazingly good, I met a 78 year old man who started daily sea swimming 2 years ago and he said arthritis had massively improved.
I used to get Reynauds in cold but its neglible .
I couldnt do the sea in winter but the cold shower is good for maintenance |

I was in lahinch or lehinch, which ever is correct, before Christmas and saw an elderly gent strip off to his jocks and go for a swim in the sea, no wet suit or nothing. I was cold just looking at him. |

That's like the Billy Connolly story about walking his dog in Glasgow and seeing a man skinny dipping in freezing weather. He came out of the water and his dick was slapping off his kneecap and Billy couldn't help but laugh.
The man asked wtf he was laughing at? Everyone's shriveled up in the cold. |

Based in Kerry, work in Cork. |
"So who is into this cold exposure? Anyone want to share their experience of cold exposure? I'm reading the book and it's quite fascinating. "
I'd go for a swim in the sea a few times a week. I can't say that I've noticed the benefits to the immune system or anything, but I always feel invigorated after it. |

Stick with it. I started 5 or 6 years ago and now the only time I'd have a hot shower is if I got drowned wet and needed to get the cold from me chest. I'd recommend turning the temperature down a wee bit everyday. Also I find if you work from your toes up me body reacts more favourable than if I turn on the tap and wet me head or chest, I found me body told me mind "fuck this!" |
