"The old man by The Furey’s, it was played at my fathers funeral. Savage song with massive lyrics and emotion especially for someone who has lost their own dad. "
Great song. Red Hurley sang it at Ted Furey's funeral, if memory serves me correctly. |

Yes..my sister used to play it on cassette tape...really sad lyrics (and my sister is no longer with us) so especially poignant for me |

When I was little my mother bought a Dolly Parton record and tortured me with "Jeanie's afraid of the dark". It's a tough listen, even still.
A Highland Lullaby by The Corries with the haunting voice of Paddie Bell. It's the story of a baby that vanishes when the mother goes out to gather blaeberries, billberries as we'd know them.
The other is a love song to a boatman, fear a bhata, but her voice gives it a really sad sound. |

"Maybe not to tears, but The Night Visiting Song, brings me to my sad place!
Great song too, especially with the voice of Luke Kelly singing it. "
Check out Damien Dempsey's version also.
When you love someone by James TW. I just think it hits the nail on the head when it comes to the pain endured by the family when love turns bad |

Newry Down |
Downtown by Petula Clark from 1964.
I used to repeatedly hear this song on a Saturday afternoon, when I was being brought back to an unhappy environment, from one where I was happy and active and tolerated and wanted! |

One more light by Linkin Park. A song written by Chester Bennington in memory of Chris Cornell. Ended up as the last song released by the band after Chester followed his friend. |
