So I have been interviewing for some new company positions this week and honestly, some people either don't prepare or don't care!
Got me thinking, what clangers and disasters have you all had during an interview? |

Was talking to someone in my last company this week and she said as she was doing a zoom interview the lady being interviewed asked to be excused for a minutes...
At which point my friend and the other lad doing the interview heard the kettle going on and sat in silence as it started to boil.
Needless to say the interview didn't last long after she returned with a cuppa |

Probably the most interesting one was when I was interviewing a woman for a position in my office running the accounts dept.
She turned up with a baby a few months old as her husband was due to meet her but was delayed in work
She fed the baby in my office and who then proceeded to puke all over her suit
She needed to clean up,then she had to show my business partner that she could run the accounts package so I took the baby for a walk around the industrial estate in her buggy while everyone stopped to chat to me and make funny noises about " my" baby
She got the job

I was going interviewing a. Umber of years ago and was asking a follow up question, “How do you deal with problems?” The answer sticks with me today and still makes me smile. He said “I don’t look for problems and problems don’t find me”
He didn’t pass the interview. |

Sitting in on a few interviews with my former manager (I was a supervisor) for entry level position to a small team. One guy shows up like he was dragged out of bed wearing a tracksuit |

Interviewing for an order picker in a warehouse a couple of years ago. First guy turned up dressed in a gold paisley patterned jacket and proceeded to tell me what changes he would make if he got the job. He didn't get it.
Next guy was high as a kite and all he could say was ye and no.
Third one in was the receptionists son who claimed to have years of experience in warehouses but had no references to back it up.
When asked if he had a forklift licence he said yes and I asked to see it. He said he didn't have it with him so I pressed him on it and he admitted he didn't actually have one but his mate could get him one by the next day.
The MD told me to employ him anyway because of his mother so against my better judgement I did.
He lasted 2 days, caused £3k worth of damage when using the forklift without permission when I wasn't there and refused every direct order given to him by his supervisor.
His mother never spoke to me after that because she blamed me for not giving him a chance |

"Its the only way to keep good staff..the core staff have an average of 24 years here...Im here 36 years ..once kids come along they're more important than work for mum or dad "
Tbh I'd just not hire someone that handed oer their baby to me without knowing me |

Newry Down |
I went for an interview for a position that I wanted, and was extremely well prepared withe the very latest research from around the planet.
However, when I saw the atmosphere in the front office, the staff looked cowed into submission.
I was taken upstairs to meet the three owners, and one woman was a real bully.
I decided to have some fun, and repeatedly insulted the bully by suggesting that even she might learn something from my the research I had done, which I handed over.
I then got up and walked out; the bully looked stunned, as if no-one had ever stood up to her.
Mercifully, I never heard from them; I had dodged a bullet, job-wise!

So at college I won a prize for a sketch I did
But it was about STIs
I did an interview and wasn’t doing great
They asked me if there was anymore to me that wasn’t on my CV
In desperation I mentioned the sketch . Couldn’t for the life expand on this . There was this horrible silence for ages
Didn’t get the job |

Remote Interviewing for a position on our team in Manila and the candidate claimed her camera wasn't working, it was start of lockdown#1 so we all had issues
We started to ask her questions about her background which was straight forward but when we got into the technical site of the role the issues started.......as soon as we'd ask a question she'd pause and we'd hear her furiously typing on the keyboard......she was obviously trying to Google her way thru the interview
it was car crash stuff
She obviously didn't get the job but the next guy we interviewed I knew within 2mins he'd be great for the role, one of the shortest interviews ever, 20mths later I couldn't survive with this lad who has his laptop set up on an ironing board under his stairs in the Philippines |
