Being a tv/its out clothes shopping?
Jump to: Newest in thread
At your age I can understand the anxiety but can assure you there is absolutely no need to be nervous. Until lockdown I did all my clothes shopping in person with the exception of some accessories like wigs. Most Shop Assistants will be very helpful if needed and at worst will ignore you - they cannot afford to make any snide or derogatory remarks as they could get fired. Over the years I have found some extremely understanding Assistants and have even engaged in a bit of friendly banter on occasion. Bite the bullet and enjoy the experience- it can be very affirming. |

Well to be honest I was a bit nervous when I was young snd would have blurted out the standard line of ‘buying a present for my Girlfriend “. I soon got over that as it became apparent fairly quickly that most people saw right through that . Just go ahead and do it - the sooner you start the sooner you will realise how easy and non eventful it will be. |

It can definitely be a bit daunting at first but it'll get easier quickly. Never got any rude remarks or anything like that. Most cashiers couldn't give less Fs about what and why you buy it
Got the occasional knowing smile, but just returned the smile |

One tip: learn to walk like a woman.
Sway those hips and put one front in front of the other.
Main thing is to move the hips, then you'll naturally put one foot in front of the other |

I used to go shopping dressed all the time and hand on heart, it's rarely been any hassle. The odd time you may hear the very occasion comment but honestly, most girls get comments when out so IMO it's part of the journey. Most retail staff barely glance at you never mind comment on your purchases. Just dress presentably, don't be a dick and you'll be fine. |

"Would you be more comfortable if you had someone with you? Might be no harm popping up a post looking for a shopping partner if it would make you feel safer. "
It probably would be more comfortable to have some moral support beside me but not sure if anyone would be interested in doing that with me? |

My daughter is a manager in Pennys ...she says nobody bats an eyelid if you come in dressed or not and her and other staff have often helped with advice anyway.
The changing rooms are unisex and they also have transgender staff who use whatever toilets they want in the staff area's.
This is the first time I've spoken to my daughter about these issues and it was because of your post
Thanks for opening my eyes to how progressive some of this country has become |

Ireland is definitely moving in the right direction for sure
But still a long way to go before the likes of us can be ourselves without worrying about potential consequences |

I'm sincerely glad you've been so fortunate. My point is simply that presenting femme in public present dressers with much the same risks and possible adverse experience as women face on a daily basis. It's not something that should deter you from doing something you want to do. |
