Looking for advice how to loose weight.
I'm 6ft 4, 15 stone, bit of a belly too.
I have a very bad back and no core strength and and injury on my shoulder so running and weights is out.( NO UPPER BODY OR CORE STRENGTH)
Eat a light breakfast, light lunch a dinner with no beer is my diet plan.
I need low impact exercises, walking, cycling, swimming.
My target weight is 12 stone with a nice toned stomache..
any tips or advice would be great!
Not a gym bunny so not an option. |

I'm a huge yoga fan. It would build the strength and core and if your teacher is aware of any restrictions, should give alternative poses to keep you safe. That and try and wander for 20 mins every day. |

sounds mad but you could try Tai chi for the exercise, its really gentle but amazingly good for all round muscle toning |

Iv heard a few talk of Tai Chi. Saw it practiced on a beach over the summer while I did a yoga class. It looks gentle and relaxed. |

Sounds like you've already got a good grasp of what you need to do
Good nutrition is key, use food to nourish & fuel your body
Mix cardio with resistance training, bodyweight exercises are fine and I'd definitely recommend Pilates for core strength |

I find exercise to be better for your mood than your weight unless you’re doing elite levels of running or cycling .
Ultimately diet is the deciding factor when it comes to weight IMO.
I weigh myself daily and therefore catch any increases before they build up .
Important to do this for yourself not other people . There are many (myself included) who very much like curves and personality is often more important anyway . Most diets lead to misery although I am sure some do wonders for people’s confidence .
Best of luck |

Yes maybe Tai Chi would be excellent for building up my core and back muscles and keep my body subtle in a safe way, and weight loss can be a different activity.
I did 6 pilates class before, found it extremely difficult and challenging to complete all the movements, I was super impressed with the teacher she can bend anyway!!
Was in a room with 8 women too , bums and boobs in my face on the floor mat for a full hour was very hard to keep my thoughts clean lol |

I did a course of pilates once too but found it too stressful on my back. |

I agree with exercise being good for mood, which in turn helps I think with the overall plan. I tend to aim for a healthy lifestyle and you will find weight loss and feel good will come with this. I never weigh myself,(threw out the scales) just go by clothes. But this works differently for everyone. Once I found yoga, loads moved into place for me. There is a sport or movement for everyone, you just gotta find yours. Still got many pounds that should not be there, but chest la vie. Good luck with it all. Let us know how you get on. Xx |

Yoga strengthen my back and core(a little) lol but also sorted a whip lash injury that physio wasn't sorting. So it probably strengthened everything. |

Yoga for your back, weight loss and multiple other benefits to your life, physical and mental.
First time I ever got toned, before I took up exercise, was with yoga
Also good for your joints like your bad shoulder.

They say you can't out train a bad diet and it's true. Weight loss is all about diet, nutrition and being in a calorie deficit. You have to work out what minimum calories you need daily and take off 500 at least to loose a pound a week. Exercise helps with getting and staying in that deficit but if you are eating too many calories the weight won't shift.
Good luck with your quest lost 35lbs last year and some has snuck back on, need to get back on the eight track again now. |

Depends on the snack tbh, if you get myfitnesspal, you can count cals and your nutrients
Low fat and carbs, highish protein and you should be sorted.
A good diet is essential |

Try getting onto a rowing machine it’s low impact and uses a a number of muscle groups and you can mix it up for low intensity going for a longer time or work on higher intensity doing shorter sprints |

Weight loss follows the Pareto Principle, the 80/20 rule. 80% food intake, 20% exercise.
We all now live in an obesogenic environment, which we are evolutionarily unsuited to: we, humans, evolved in an environment where starvation and famine were common.
Constant grazing is not conducive to weight loss; we do not allow our bodies to fully recover.
Starve yourself one or two days per week, and drink loads of tap water which is perfectly healthy in most of Ireland; water from plastic bottles is a con, and very wasteful.
Improve your internal bacterial microbiome by eating fermented foods, such as sauerkraut, kefir, kimchi, and loads of fibrous vegetables such as beetroot, which really cleanses the system, but makes any waste turn red.
And avoid any celebrity diet regimes; most are misguided, and some are dangerous.
Go back to nature to the way our antecedents evolved over millennia, and walk a lot more!
We evolved to walk long distances every day in search of an infrequent meal; which we binged on.

I find fitnesspal great, because it tracks nutrition as opposed to just focusing on calories. Remember OP, any changes have to be sustainable, go back to your old dietary habits and the weight will pile on again, even faster when you are lighter overall. Good dietary habits are the key to weight maintenance, exercise has lots of benefits, not just physical, find one or two that you enjoy and can fit into your lifestyle. If you find it easier when you are answerable to someone else, join classes or get an exercise buddy. |

My advice would go sort out your bad back and weak core before worrying about weight loss.
Not sure if there is much benefit in being skinny if your body can't function properly.
Also, as you get older it will only become worse and harder to fix. |

Being overweight, particularly in the midsection, is a common cause of back problems |

If he was 30 stone I'd agree. But at 6'4 and 15 stone he should not be getting back problems from his current weight.
The back problems are much more likely because he has a weak core and weak back muscles.

Different things work for different people and well done on your weightloss. However if you think there's no brainwashing involved with Slimming World or any other weightloss club you're deluding yourself a bit. You can't call others experts in a deprecating manner whilst doing exactly the same as they've done...sharing what works *for them/you* Just as there are many who champion SW etc there will be just as many who find the idea of some foods being "free" or attaching the notion of some foods as being "syns" as incredibly harmful. For those who have a skewed relationship with food and overeating you really have to start with the mind. And yes, I've walked the walk many times and had my weight fluctuate as much as 10 stone in a year...this granny has sucked ALL the eggs |

Pick whatever excercise you enjoy and do it regularly with a healthy balanced diet.
BUT...the bottom line for losing weight is a caloric deficit, regardless of training. A healthy diet with a deficit of about 500 below maintenance, (consistently) and the weight will come off, absolutely guaranteed. If it doesn't, then you're not in a deficit! |

Well done first on your hard work and achievements
Yes I do agree with you
I’m meant including myself all the experts were on
Tongue &Cheek comment lol
I understand what your saying about the different groups but the main thing for me was keeping the food diary every day and yes it’s mind over matter
I’ve tried so many different plans but it worked
The biggest problem is maintaining after you lose it
I got my hand slapped when I asked could a class be set up once a month for people who reached target to help them maintain and share advice and tips as well as supporting one another
But was quickly rejected because they wouldn’t make money out of us .
Yes I’ve put some back on and next week getting back into the zone
Anyone like to join up in a support group to help one another and share tips
Then maybe once a month meet up for a social support chat if it suited people
Maybe a walk ,
Open to ideas

With consistent calorie deficit also comes the body's reaction of slowing down its own metabolism!
(That's where different types of fasting may help, for example).
OP, you are best off getting your advice from a professional where diet and exercise are concerned.
What works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. And what works for you for a month or 2 may not continue to work 3 months down the line as your body changes and adapts.
If you have physical ailments and injuries, these will also need to be taken into account so that you don't injure yourself further.
The 2 things I would say (I qualified as a fitness instructor a few years back):
1. It is mainly diet that will lose you pounds but different strokes for different folks!!! So play around and find out what works for you - give it time!
2. Muscle tissue uses more energy than fatty tissue hence building more muscle will help you burn more calories. I would advise resistance training rather than excessive cardio, like yoga with an instructor who can advise positions taking account of your injuries while strengthening your core and back and working on flexibility.
I wish you every success |

"Looking for advice how to loose weight.
For a man your height 12st would be a bit light. I'm 5.11 and I'm 12st and I'm a bit thin on the bones lol. Like in previous posts yoga is great without busting yourself at the gym |

I thought similar, circa 95kg is not big for a lad of 6'4"
I think you just need a good trainer or conditioning coach if you want to make some changes |

Great advice, lots to ponder, decided to give yoga a try with a proper balanced diet.
Like the idea of joining a local hill walking club also for mental and physical exercise and meeting new friends, so that's my plan
Thanks again for the super advice...
Happy new year to you all. |

Had a bad back for years, bending down was difficult. Sitting sometimes was impossible.
I was on lots of medication to the point my stomach couldn’t take anymore.
Started pilates at the local gym. It eased the pain and eventually took it away, but it didn’t happen overnight. Since the last lockdown I got PT sessions for pilates. My back is never sore, an odd twinge rarely, and I have been able to build up my core muscles which in turn has taken pressure off my back.
During lockdown I was walking but if I did too much I felt it in my back the next day. Perhaps stay off the tarmac if you are walking and head for the woods or beach if you can.
Best of luck |
