I thought it was to signify that you were willing to chat privately about a thread when you posted it....if someone was looking for advice you could ask someone who answered and added that symbol |

"Used to be an option on main page to set a timer for how long you were open to chat to random folks but that seems to have disappeared.
I think it started after the second lockdown.
