Just asking for someone I know but did hear it on radio
But are people finding it near impossible to get a pcr test ? They said there online constantly and nothing absolutely nothing in any county. They even tried going online at 12 at night still nothing
With cases today at 16,500 today would they be higher if there were more tests available
Any body any advice of the test - |

Tried booking one this morning and there were none available in Northern Ireland at all. There were no home testing kits available either.
The local centre does walk-ins so I took a chance and got sorted. |

Covid is so rampant now that test centers are completely booked up. I know people who can’t get a booking at all this week and one who is getting it done privately. But that’s going to cost €70. They’re even saying that testing is pointless with the current situation and that if you have any symptoms you most likely have it and to isolate. |

Think doctors are advising to self isolate and don't bother getting a pcr.. Omicron is no where near as dangerous as delta.. Omicron is resulting in 1/4 of hospital cases as what delta caused and people do not need oxygen and omicron has pushed delta aside.. I think we are seeing a decline in covid.. Fingers crossed |

Didn’t want to risk it as it’s a 40 minute drive to nearest test centre . All with half hour of each other thankfully . |

If you have symptoms and can get your hands on an antigen test then do it. If it’s positive then just isolate for the required 10 days. If you have symptoms then it’s most likely Covid at this point. It’s rampant in my town and I’m my line of work it’s just a matter of when and not if we get it. |

Impossible to get a pcr test. Trying for days now, the figures would be much higher. The isolation rules are based around pcr tests, if you can't get one it's just pure guess work. Anyhow I did an antigen test couple of days ago as a close contact and it turned out to be positive, had no symptoms whatsoever and I'm pass the 10 days since impact. Happy days. |

I think if people can’t get a test max 5 days they might self isolate
If they want people to follow the recommendations they should provide the tests
Both my relations in the uk are sent FREE YES FREE test each week
But government think it’s more important to give €100 off electricity bill
Think how much they de save if they gave out tests |

Mimic is the wrong word but yes sore throat, runny nose, sneezing and fatigue, like a cold. At present you can assume though it's Omicron. |

Positive antigen Xmas day. Stayed up til 1am to get appointment Monday night, tested today in Dublin, as none in Meath.
F me! They shove that fucking swab right to the back of your nose!!
Had symptoms and 3 positive tests so expecting I've a positive PCR tomorrow and 6mths free from getting Covid again.
Gotta see the positive side
Thank God I missed the stronger varieties though, as the fatigue is a pain in the ass, never mind the isolation. |

6 months free? It's much less than that, with omicron I heard any immunity from a 'natural infection' could be gone in a couple of months max. |

Omicron bypasses the immunity you get from other variants
And it bypasses the boosters after a while
I ll be getting the 4th jab as soon as I bloody can as it looks like the 3rd booster works brilliantly for about 10 weeks then starts waning |

The biggest problem with omicron will be staffing actually . People being off with positive tests or being close contacts . |

I'd say staffing issues. Many centres were struggling to get staff for daytime hours and already they're redeploying staff from already stretched areas. |

the biggest current issue is the close contact isolation. that has changed things dramatically and for the worse on business. a nice few places are been forced to shut through lack of staff where the old rule was you only isolate if close contact and display symptoms. |

The warehouse is down a huge amount of staff also was talking to someone there yesterday " the current recommendation is closing alot of businesses so instead of lockdown been issued upon them, it's happening anyway. I don't know how long past the end of January they can keep asking people to isolate as close contacts who don't have symptoms. |

"Positive antigen Xmas day.
You 'heard', it's way too early to come to any conclusion like this. There's no data that would back that up. It could be the complete opposite. |

Staffing them
The biggest problem with omicron will be staffing actually . People being off with positive tests or being close contacts .

But you could still have it and not display any symptoms..my partners daughter tested positive Tuesday he has been doing antigen tests since Sunday all negative no symptoms but he got private PCR done yesterday as he was coming here tomorriw and its positive |

But are people finding it near impossible to get a pcr test ? They said there online constantly and nothing absolutely nothing in any county. They even tried going online at 12 at night still nothing
With cases today at 16,500 today would they be higher if there were more tests available
Any body any advice of the test - "
Im testing , its v hatd to get a test such is the demand , if you do an antigen and its positive , treat yourself as positive , it has to be pcr confirmed but they 99% turn out positive , if your vaccinated, covid is bearable but everyones different |

The PCR test thing is out of control , unless your travelling why do you need it ? Its just a confirmation of what you probably know already , my view is - if you feel sick then isolate , take antigen tests until its negative or 10 days , if you get really sick go to hospital . This is what you would do in normal times if you were sick . PCR is just a confirmation , thats all it is . |

If I'm reading Tony's new rules correctly, if your friend is under 39 they are recommending self isolating and taking regular antigen tests instead of booking a PCR.
Also, for fully vaccinated or boosted people over 13 years old they only have to self isolate for 7 days from the onset of symptoms if the symptoms have 'substantially or fully resolved for the final 2 days of those 7 days.

Seen a post online today about the correct way to use the antigen tests, recommended to also swab the back of your throat as the virus can be detected there before it's gone up into nostrils. |

Am now wondering if having 2 vaccines, booster and now Covid,am I less likely to be worried about catching anything again?
Are we not now reaching herd immunity status, with ICU numbers reducing, so maybe time to relax most restrictions?
Has to be asked. |

Yes you are to swab both, at least that is what we have been doing for over a year now in work .You do have to swab right at the back tho otherwise it is pointless . |

True about virus in throat. There is an antigen test for this where you cough into |

I've had 2 PCRs in the last 3 weeks. Both were negative and they weren't done to confirm that I had Covid but to rule it out.
I've had a blinding headache for 7 days which I know is referred pain from an old neck injury and a chesty cough for 3 weeks which I'm convinced is also caused by one or both other long term ailments.
It's standard practice now to ask patients with longterm respiratory issues to have a PCR in order to rule that out of the equation.
Swabbing the throat has always been the advice up here right from the start and I wasn't aware that anyone was doing it differently. |

Most antigen tests available in Ireland are only designed to be used with nose swabs. Using them for throat swabs can give a false positive especially just after eating. Follow the directions on the pack, not what people are doing on social media.

Has to be asked."
South Africa is easing their restrictions now after Omicron has peaked. So lets peak first before we have party, I'd say latest by the end of January. Holohan won't like the idea though and will keep up the scaremongering to clutch to his power as long as he can.
I don't think the herd immunity is a goer with Covid, but there's a few scientists cautiously expressing hope that hybrid immunity (vaccine and infection) will provide a good level of protection and hopefully starts being the end of the pandemic. |

Rapid lateral flow tests require either a:

nose swab only.

Specifically says to read the instructions on each type of test. You're providing inaccurate information which could lead some to have false results. The reasoning behind a nose swab instead of throat is because your throat can have various types of food or drinks contamination. Your nose is very unlikely to have any foreign objects but we all have different kinks.

The viral load on the sample taken needs to be at a certain level before it shows and this is why antigen tests are really only a guide. We provide them to all our staff in work and on seeing how some use them after reading the instructions you would be as will to give them a finger of a kit cat and put it in their ear.
But back to my point. Please check the website you reference before posting false information |

I stand by what I said. Every antigen test I've seen or used has been for a double swab with clear instructions on the leaflet.
I attempted to book a PCR on Wednesday morning to no avail but on the gov.uk website it detailed new pcr regulations in regard to close contacts etc. One paragraph detailed lft instructions including advice on double swabbing.
As a result of that I had a conversation yesterday with a group of friends about why they would have to advise swabbing the throat if that was already standard. Only one of the group had heard of nasal only swabs through his sister in England.
I've just looked at that page now and that paragraph has been reworded and does not give any advice on swabbing at all.
I don't use social media and I certainly don't take advice from fab experts. |

They’re even saying that testing is pointless with the current situation and that if you have any symptoms you most likely have it and to isolate. there is normal cold flu going around with covid though. I know a few with cold like symptoms and tested negative on PCRs. "
Yeap that's me, have a dose and done 4 antigens in the past week the latest last night and all negative. I have runny nose, bit of a sore throat and sneezing going on since Cristmas Eve which was 2 days after I got my booster and its not shifting. Am worse today than when it starter a week ago |
