That makes me sick to my stomach. The poor unfortunate man. I hope his injuries are minor and that the ignorance thugs that meeted out this violence will be caught, convicted and jailed. I can imagine that individually they would be the most craven cowards.

Its on national news a man sitting in his car at said location was approached by 2 men and was stabbed through the open window unprovoked..apparently its open 24 hours and can be used by overnight campers in vans and cars etc also has walking trails

I walk my dogs there sometimes. It's not open 24 hours, gates get closed and locked in the evening, usually 6pm this time of year because there are no lights up on the trails.

But it is a known "meet" spot and the article says the man may have been lured there.

It also says this: "They are looking to hear from anyone who was near the entrance to Balrath Woods and may have noticed any people or vehicles between 7.30pm and 9pm last night."

Which sould suggest that the man was parked up at the entrance, which is large enough to swing a car round in but I wouldnt be comfortable having a meet at the entrance as it's barely off the road.

Very sad to hear what has happened to that man, regardless of what he was doing there, would definitely make us more wary about going to meet people we havent met at a party/social.

Reading online they seem to think he was doing something illegal

To me it looks like a man lured somewhere for sex and they tried to rob him instead

I only read one article about it and I also got that they lured him for sex and robbed him instead maybe hoping he wouldn't report it.

Probably not fair to speculate either way cos nobody deserves to be attacked and stabbed

Newry Down

This type of crime is rare in Ireland, but quite common in the US.

People have been lured to isolated locations and a group of men with violent intent turn up.

There have been deaths.
