Sexualising the language of food and drink

Just reading an interesting article in a newspaper

The female writer has a fairly large article about normalising sexual innuendoes in the food and drinks industry

She speaks about cocktails called..The Pornstar Martini...sex on the beach...long slow screw up against the wall....

She mentions how she wanted a panini in the shop local to her job

She wanted Tomato,Mozzarella and pesto...however the staff didn't recognise it and looked at the board where it was called The Italian Stallion...she was fuming and won't go back as they made the panini and then called out your order ....In her case "who's for The Italian Stallion"

Have we over sexualised everything at this stage or is it just the way things go....sex sells

Thoughts

Any chance she is reading too much into the Italian stallion herself and attaching a sexual meaning......

She gives the explanation that its taken from a porn movie that Sylvester Stallone did that surfaced after Rocky...and yes I remember seeing it back in the day

Considering sex was taboo in Ireland not so long ago, I think it's great that we are more open now and if it means attaching sexual names to food and drink then so be it.

She sounds a bit repressed if she gets embarrassed about little things like this imo

Its also the ring name of his most famous character "Rocky" which I assume is what 99% of the people who even get the reference would associate it with

The porno was re-release and renamed that after rocky but again its a pretty obscure reference and imo an effort to be offended for an article

Yet another example of someone looking to find offence. I have to assume she's not a fan of Big Mac's either?

Yeah stuff like that pisses me off. I dont see the point. I kinda get it with drinks, it makes for a bit of silly humour i suppose and its an over 18's environment, but food in a deli...

Time and place

Ok it can be anytime but I don’t think the deli is the place

I wouldn’t have attached anything sexual to “the Italian stallion” so I guess it depends on your point of reference. Much ado about nothing imo

My thoughts exactly. If the panini was called 'Stripey cock' then I'd question it but 'The Italian Stallion' is ambiguous enough for kids I think
