So, we have today to prepare for Storm Barra tomorrow....especially here in the south....
What will you do today to get ready...
I must take down the trampoline and tie down the Christmas lights a bit more.....and apply to work from home |

"Might not be that years.. Years ago they called it winter now it's a storm and they scare everyone to death.. "
Years ago we'd be in the middle of it before Met Eireann announced anything |

It's a weather warning.
Eminently sensible to do things like take in outdoor lights etc. |

Newry Down |
The section of the previous storm that struck the north east coast of England is now regarded as the worst in sixty years; massive widespread damage and some still without power. Thousands of acres of trees flattened; many old trees uprooted.
Storms are getting worse; this is the reality of climate disruption caused by global warming and sea rise/temperature increase of water.

"Why scare peeps what will be will be ffs "
It is not about scaring people; do not be complacent.
Take in trampolines and garden furniture. Store bins securely. If your house is built on a floodplain, prepare sandbags or flood screens.
Park cars away from old trees. Do not go out when the wind is predicted to be worst. |

Exercise cautioun, especially those down south and particularly if on high grounds. Storms like this often frighten people especially older people so check in with your folks if they are still around.
Stay safe and if your off work today then its Xmas day dress rehearsal for films and food!!! |

"Yes and fill a flask in case the power goes so at least you can have a cuppa tea! I love me tea!!!"
Even better fill two flasks if you rely on electricity...
My kettle on the 1940ties solid fuel Rayburn is always on the simmer. It's my future proof heating/cooking system when everything fails or when the data centres eventually suck up all the electricity.
Biscuit with the tae? |

""Bins are still upright "
Yeah Dublin won't be bad,its the south and south west that's getting the brunt of it. Your bins will be fine "
I've been staring at the kitchen bin for hours wondering when this thing is gonna actually kick off.
I nearly took my eyes off it when the neighbours cat flew by the window though |

I do find it funny that many in yellow status counties are scoffing at this storm, when in reality its the southwest that's taking the hit in the main, so yeah status yellow isn't an issue and remember we are about 6 hours into an 18 hour event,it will move around abit. For the status red counties they are getting battered in parts. |

Who's scoffing?
It's yellow where I am, but I still wouldn't, say, go cycling.
Things like working on scaffolding are obviously out.
Yes, it's mostly just common sense, but sometimes we need a bit of direction and leadership to save people from taking unnecessary risks. |
