Stolen from the lounge
New cars, although for the first year ever they’re gaining value
And in some cases private medical insurance surprises me . Handy for new hips , but premiums so high over the years might actually be cheaper to pay a one off fee for an operation to skip the queue |

Some brand names are stupidly expensive compared to others even when only a few euro
Fever tree mixers and posh gin ..why would you bother
Drugs especially the white ones....Gods way of letting you know you earn too much money
Having said that I'm guilty of some of the stuff listed above but they don't seem wasteful to me....I change my car every 3 years...its my thing....I get mileage so its covered
Health insurance....one of my kids nearly died in the first 48 hrs and needed an operation that cost nearly 50K to live.....no waiting list or worry so I pay it every year

Ebooks and audiobooks - you can get them free from the library.
Apps and games on the phone- weirdos.
Std tests- sh24 and parcel motel are your friend
Cash fares on public transport- why haven't you got a leap card yet, it's cheaper?!
Disney+ - it's just crap lads. Save your coin
Those meal plan services like drop chef- it just doesn't make sense to me

"Government Ministers...
What do they do?
Each one of them has at least one adviser, why isn't the adviser doing the job? "
Thats a bit of a stupid question man! Who would do their 2nd or even 3rd jobs in some cases if they didn't have an advisor to do the first?
It's the consultancy jobs that get them the 7 figure lifestyle they deserve after all |

I get buying quality but paying an additional €200 for a tiny logo is beyond me"
Plenty of second hand options nowadays as well. Got a 600 Hugo boss suit for 60 on Thriftify there. |

What utterly baffles me is people purchasing bottled water, in small plastic bottles that take 500-1000 years to degrade.
The tap water in most areas of Ireland is perfect; there are some contaminated private schemes in the Republic, but Irish water quality is superb in comparison with some places, even in USA.
The water supply in Flint, Michigan is dreadful.
Buy a water bottle and refill it from the tap. |

Weekend shopping trips to New York back in the day
At one stage 5 of my office and their partners went and spent the guts of 5k a couple but saved a fortune according to them in a place called woodbury common I think
They didnt count the cost of the flights or hotel towards how much they saved ....300 dollar bed sheets is the one I cant forget ffs..what a waste of money |

I’m with BogM. For some people, private insurance can be literally lifesaving. I think it’s really ignorant to assume that everyone is blessed with good health. Our healthcare system is excellent but when you suffer long term, it’s nice to treat yourself. |

It feels ridiculous when you have to pay it for years on end, but it is a life saver when you need to use it, especially for immediate access to life saving treatment and the massive cost associated with it (more than 37k comes to mind in one case).
When time is of essence, if you can afford private health insurance, all of a sudden access to private healthcare has a totally new meaning and justification and the raising cost of it becomes irrelevant, considering the circumstances. |

It’s not just ease of access to specialist treatment.
it’s getting a private room on your 4th hospital stay in a year.
It’s seeing the same consultant every 3mts instead of telling your complicated story over and over to someone new each time.
It’s getting nurse advice immediately rather than waiting 2 days for someone special to call you back.
It’s going to a private hospital with half decent food for your painful elective surgery.

That’s why I said in some cases . I know many who over insure because of what might happen . Only to stop paying after years having not used this , as would have been statistically likely . However in some cases it’s highly appropriate |

I don't have it now but I was glad of it a few years ago. It gave me access to services which would have had a massive waiting list at which point it probably would have been too late for me.
Seeing the bill for the insurance company at nearly €40,000 . It'll only ever be worth it if you need it. Yet nobody wants to need it obviously.
For some it's peace of mind... for others a waste of money...it always depends, doesn't it? |

"My mam got sick abroad and if it hadn’t have been for insurance we would’ve been landed with a bill of over €800k…. So for me it’s a no brianer "
Surely no-one in their right mind would travel without proper travel insurance,we wouldn't take the chance ! |

A guy in another department in work went to Spain in middle of October. Ended up in hospital with a kidney issue. Only got back last week. Currently has a 4000 euro bill to pay because he was dumb enough to and I quote "I don't believe in travel insurance. Its another scam" |

It doesn't bother me what others spend their money on I'm sure everyone has their own interests. Plenty would say I'm nuts for having dogs and horses but that's what my interests are and if they need something I'll get it for them. |

Dogs and horses are superb companions, and are worth every penny.
Those who have no affinity for companion animals have no understanding of the joy they bring into one's life.
The death of a pet can be more devastating than the death of a relative. |
