Naas which is South West of Dublin

I was just listening to/watching Simon & Garfunkel play The Sound Of Silence and made me think, what in your opinion is the greatest song ever?

Or maybe divide it into the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s etc….

In terms of a how song ‘feels’ my favourite is let down , Radiohead . Signalled how the Internet revolution overwhelmed humans and there is no better song to listen to on a rainy day .

Lyrically , there are a couple of very clever , over and above others type songs .

Something changed by pulp. Up the junction squeeze . Gordon lightfoot if you could read my mind. Verve never wanna see you cry. Favourite mistake sheryl Crowe.

Special mention to ride by Lana del Rey. The chorus Captures well why some of us gravitate to fab !!

Louis Armstrong with Wonderful World is a contender for me.

The Police with their stalker anthem Every Breath You Take.

Simon and Garfunkel with Bridge Over Troubled Waters

For my mellow reflective moments... John McCormack with The Old House

Yup.. here comes the sun is also a George Harrison penned one funnily enough. And everyone says Lennon/McCartney were the songwriting masters. They weren't even in the room for those two.

Do you mean literally not in the room? Cos McCartney definitely played bass on both songs (and backing vocals on Here Comes The Sun) while Lennon played on Something

I find it all depends on mood - I could listen to Jonny Cashs covers of 'Hurt' & 'if you could read my mind' all day. Someone mentioned 'Stand by Me' as well, another favourite of mine too.
