We have a huge sense of entitlement to drive our car when we want to , eat what we want to, live in one off houses and travel overseas. This will make it very difficult for us to take individual responsibility to do something about climate change . Most of us including me will have good intentions that mostly won’t translate into good actions unless legislations and taxes come into play |

Everybody, including Greta Thumberg, thinks the planet is in jeopardy.
It isn’t.
The planet can take care of itself.
The planet isn’t in jeopardy. We are. |

There is only a very thin veneer of democracy in this country. We vote for these politicians, but once elected they only serve corporate interests. During the height of the pandemic all our civil liberties were taken away from us. Anyone who spoke out or protested against the draconian measures ended up in prison. |

I'd disagree with most of that. We have quite a good democratic system. It's just that we have too many gobshites who keep voting the same old idiots in. We have the parties in power that we deserve. Also, living in a democracy means that the people we voted in get to appoint public health experts who use their expertise to control public health. Part of this is pandemic responses. Public votes enabled this system. Your assertion that the normal right to protest was curtailed doesn't undermine our democracy. Its just an effect of the decisions made by your elected public official. |

Why is that the social media platforms you’re reading this drivel off aren’t seen to be diminishing democracy but this shadowy made up corporate force is? |

This lady among many others-
A 66-year-old grandmother has been jailed for 90 days by a judge who said she had shown scant regard for the safety of others when refusing to wear a mask to prevent the spread of coronavirus while out shopping.
Margaret Buttimer from The Cottage, St Fintan’s Road, Bandon, Co Cork, appeared at Bandon District Court today to contest two counts of refusing to wear a mask at SuperValu, Riverview Shopping Centre in Bandon on June 25th and July 1st. |

You are wrong- a society can only be judged by how it treats it's most vunerable citizens. Jailing a pensioner for 90 days who couldn't wear a mask while shopping is both draconion and disproportionate. |

I think you’ve proven the point here, she was judged for having scant regard for the safety others and punished accordingly, the fact that she’s a pensioner is irrelevant.

They actually did a study from MIT about 6 months ago.
Also, do i need post the YouTube clip from march 3rd 2020 of luke oneill on late late show saying dont bother, they make no difference.
Theres studies to suggest they both work and dont work its really inconclusive.
But hey a particle so small that it can possible not even be classed as an organism be stopped by a cloth mask...
Hardly a hazmat suit |

Do you mean this study?
https://dspace.mit.edu/handle/1721.1/129615
Titled "An evidence review of face masks against COVID-19"
"The preponderance of evidence indicates that mask wearing reduces transmissibility per contact by reducing transmission of infected respiratory particles"
"We recommend that public officials and governments strongly encourage the use of widespread face masks in public, including the use of appropriate regulation" |

Actually, whatever about that opinion above being unpopular, it is actually very true. Its not the planet thats in danger, rather, it's all living things, all life, including human life, that depend upon a cool Earth, that's in existential danger.
Venus, our sister planet has surface temperatures of 400°C and more, yet its still a planet, still orbits the sun, but utterly devoid of all life.
The Earth will remain a planet, when it too has 400°C, but humans and all other life will have died on it. Will be no.
This is a serious "unpopular " idea. |

The world's leading politicians are truthful, honest, decisive, selfless, are wholly unconcerned about their personal reelection to their respective assemblies, invariably tell the truth, are unconcerned about minutiae, have an unusual capacity to see the big picture globally and for the long-term benefit of humankind, are honourable, trustworthy, and of the highest calibre.
In short, our collective future is reassuringly safe in their hands. We can all rest easy and should be thankful to them. |

The catholic church's role in Irish society was benign and has been widely misunderstood and unjustifiably mis-reported by the media; members of the various religious had the interests of the residents of the following institutions uppermost in their minds at all time; Magdalene laundries, Industrial schools, corrections institutions such as letterfrack; all Christian Brothers institutions; mother and baby homes, etc.
Ray D'Arcy's injudicious comment on RTE Radio 1, that the catholic church has really f##### up this country is wholly without merit! |

I think challenging opinion encourages useful and interesting debate which is a good thing. People can agree or disagree with interesting debate and that's fine. The other thread was the same. If you want threads to always rigidly stick to a sequence of single responses to an OP the you're on the wrong site. |

Also that's total bullshit about anyone who spoke out ended up in prison.
You do understand thread called unpopular opinion
Sure.. but if you have an unpopular opinion it has to also be one that's justified in some way. I can backup my opinions and I'm sure others can too
Not really an opinion is an opinion everyone is entitled to have one doesn't matter what it is.... if the thread was called unpopular Facts then you have a case of seeking justification
Just because everyone is entitled to hold an opinion doesn't mean that that others can't question on criticise that opinion.
The thread is called unpopular opinion not let's question someone's unpopular opinion... Jesus Christ it's a fun type thread you don't have to post ya agree or disagree just let it be ...why do people on this forum get so good dam Toxic on here like they are the righteous and entitlement
I think challenging opinion encourages useful and interesting debate which is a good thing. People can agree or disagree with interesting debate and that's fine. The other thread was the same. If you want threads to always rigidly stick to a sequence of single responses to an OP the you're on the wrong site. "
Nope I am on right site , have a nice day |

Unfortunately that is very true. Even social networks have become very antisocial. |

Much like the way beauty has very little to do with how you look, vocal trance can take you to places no other genre of music can. |

"The word c*nt is a vulgar word and is associated misogyny. "
I used it yesterday in a thread about erotic stories for its shock value ....it's not usually a word I'd use in everyday conversation...its a very negative word normally when used against another person alright |

I'm my experience it's used more against men than women. There's nothing more empowering than telling someone he's a cunt! It's a great word. |

I certainly don't mean it in a misogynistic manner. I guess we use male derogatory terms also and I don't feel they are degrading men.

I should clarify that I'm not a bitter cynical aul git (at least I hope not )
I actually think the Toy Show itself is cynical and manipulative. It's a cash cow for RTE and it's the only thing Tubridy is halfway good at so he never shuts the hell up about it
I never even liked it when I was a child myself |

"Global Warming is a scam. No doubt we are warming up the earth, but the earth will cope. Mother nature might wipe humanity off the face of the earth though, but will do perfectly fine without us"
That is a bit of a strange one.
So you would rather it expressed as we're ruining the chances of survival on this planet? |

Well the earth is getting warmer because the ice caps are melting.
As the ice melts there is less of it to reflect heat back into space, so the heat stays in our atmosphere instead of being radiated back out.
And humans are directly responsible for this.
More white ice, less heat. Simple. |
