i travel all over |
When driving through your local suburb/village/town/street/lane wave or smile at people ? Even if you don’t know them ?
I do locally all the time . Also when driving through small villages . I wonder what others make of this . Friendly or a bit OTT |

I live in the big schmoke so I can’t be doing to everyone but I always be sure to give the nod or a hello to any old fogey I walk past
That being said, I think blanking people in the office corridor when you’re walking past each other is a crime against humanity |

Introduced myself to someone in the building who id hardly met in 4 months. Bumped into her every day for a week after.... became a bit of a joke tbh! |

One of the offices I work in has a crazy long corridor . I feel a sense of panic sometimes walking the 10 seconds until we meet in the middle if its someone I don’t know well . Thank fuck for mobiles and windows giving me something to stare at meanwhile |

I'm from Tue bog so everyone salutes everyone...aslo if someone pulls in to let me pass I always put on my hazard lights to thank them and they always flash there lights back as a your welcome.. |

I love when I'm walking through a big office corridor and someone is a bit behind but going same direction
I hold the door open and watch them walk faster to be polite to me for holding the door...great craic |

I do it locally. I find it happens even more the further I get from Dublin. Love doing it while another county even walking. Maybe just feel like I'm on holidays. |

It would be like crocodile Dundee arriving in New York in the bigger cities.
In the countryside, in small villages and at the quieter beaches a nod or salute is almost customery, might even say there s something wrong with your man, or they must be out with me over something if you did nt get the salute

Not being from any of the parishes up and down this country, and also doing a fair amount on travelling for work… I love the nod/finger raise/head tilt/general eye contact that exists in the country. Always try to engage as I drive around…
I also almost always wave at neighbours on my way in and out of the estate where I live…. It’s likely they think I’m way too friendly… kind of a Truman show blow in as I take the trash cans in from the curb… (using my mother tongue).
Office greetings…. What’s an office… am petrified of office etiquette when that returns.  |

When my family first arrived in Ireland back in the 80s, living in the middle of nowhere or the arse of beyond as I like to call it , my mother literally sat behind the wheel of the car with 2 fingers lifted off the steering wheel in salute because everyone you drove past greeted or waved in some way. Something that we as city slickers were not accustomed to! It makes me smile to this day. The rural community of Ireland.
I have to admit I have a tendency to be lost in thought, in la la land, so I'd probably even walk/drive past my closest friends without realising and I do live in a bigger town...but when I am more conscious of my surroundings, Id like to say I have a smile on my face for people |

You're essentially articulating the changes that have taken place in most societies over the past fifty plus years; increased urbanisation leads to growing anonymity; people are naturally inclined to be friendly within their local group whom they know, but urbanisation means you don't know your neighbour or people you pass by.
We have lost a lot in the so-called process of development.  |

Depends if I know someone or not. Having lived away from my town for 15 odd years I don’t really know anyone anymore here but like you I’d acknowledge anyone that I do know. |
