Decades ago, there was a famous TV gardener called Percy Thrower who inspired my lifelong interest in gardening.
This was decades before Monty Don, Alan Titchmarsh (the first millionaire TV gardener) Geoff Hamilton, et al.
Percy was sacked because he did an advert for a formerly famous British company called ICI-Inperial Chemical Industries.
This broke BBC rules as they were then; now lots of stars have secondary sources of income.
I suspect very few on this site have ever heard of Percy Thrower or his successor, Peter Seabrook! |

"Jubal...pick a tv character you'd like to be
"
Percy Thrower.
Solid, down to earth, hands dirty, no nonsense guy, spoke frankly, gave sound advice, professional who knew what he was talking about, a man with his own entrepreneurial aspirations, a really genuine guy. |

He's not a TV character, he was a real person |

He was a TV character; Percy Thrower, the real person, portrayed the TV character of Percy Thrower, the gardening petsonality who advised people now to look after their gardens.

In the spirit of the thread, I had better choose another one: my choice this time will be the utterly forgettable W.L.Tremayne, portrayed by the veteran actor, Anthony Nichols, who managed the three secret agents in The Champions, portrayed by Craig Sterling, William Gaunt and the fabulously stunning Alexandra Bastedo, who tragically died at an early age, one of her last acting roles having been in Coronation Street. Quite a comedown from The Champions, which, I think, was another of Lew Grade's ITC productions. It was very popular in the UK and Ireland, but flopped internationally and was abandoned after one season in 1969. |
