Dennis Taylor, Terry Griffiths and Alex Higgins a few times through work.
George Best and Derek Dougan just randomly.
Had a conversation with Davy Jones in the Epcot center in Florida while he was on stage.
Tony Hart asked me for directions in an hotel in Enniskillen. A real gentleman.
A couple of actors from the Commitments at a function. Paul Daniels backstage in London. |

I have met numerous world famous people during my long life, but the most notorious has to have been Jimmy savile at an event in the mid 1990s; he was five stunning women and had the patter of an experienced bluffer.
He knew what to say to appeal on a geographical basis, compounded by an assumption about who that person's football hero would be; iny case George Best. But I have zero interest in soccer.
Fundamentally he was a sleazy ingratiator. I spent well over an hour with him, but he did not positively impress me, and he knew it.
He was adulated for decades and was a skilled manipulator; he hoodwinked the entire country, from the highest to the lowest.
From the future monarch to Prime Ministers to millions of young guys and gals. But many people did see through him, but were afraid to speak out.
He threatened hundreds with civil litigation about slander and libel.
His exposure has been a watershed in the exposure of celebrity abusers, paedophiles and paraphiliacs. |

Who was the person who impressed you most and why?
What life lessons did you learn that you were able to apply?
Who was the most attractive, or the least attractive?
Who was least impressed by their exalted media image?
My questions are serious ones. |

AP McCoy. Got a picture with him just to show my father as he's big into racing and all my father said was how d*unk I looked.
I didn't have one drink that night. |

The most famously erudite individial I ever met was the former host of University Challenge in the Granada TV studios in Manchester in 1987.
Scholarly, erudite, well read, bon viveur, urbane and debonair raconteur. I'm referring to Bamber, of course.

I met most of the members of the Grimaldi family in London; the matriarch, a former beauty queen and movie star was approachable, intelligent and oozed sexuality. Her three children were aghast at my audaciousness in approaching their mother, who was open and honest about her Irish ancestry in County Mayo, before the Gorta Mor. |

I've dined with a few Nobel prize winners and even shared pints with one here in Dublin. They wouldn't be too well known to the general public though. However, one did write the original script for a very successful film directed by one of the most acclaimed directors out there. |

Met loads over the years.
The most memorable was delivering room service and being invited in only to see Eddi Reader of Fairground Attraction been eaten out by some lucky lad.
Was told to put the food on the table and given £50 for my troubles.
Not sure what the guy who opened the door had to do with it all but certainly fart tracked my interests in group fun |

I was once staying a very plush hotel in Leeds, where a very famous English soccer player was also staying; in the lounge/foyer area crowds of people were swarming around him as he sat on the sofa next to me, and asking him for his autograph and for permission to be photographed with him.
I asked the people whom I was with, who also briefly spoke to him, right next to me, if the person was very famous. They seemed surprised at my query and confirmed that he was.
His name was never mentioned to me, I did not recognise him, but I suppose I could say I briefly met a very famous English soccer player, anonymously! |

About 20 years ago I met Jackie Chan, he was doing a movie scene/stunt where I was working in Dublin. Really sound and friendly guy and someone I admire so that made it special.
A few years ago, Kevin Hart, just said hello but appeared nice also.

I have met hundreds of so- called famous people throughout my life including many whose names would recognised internationally.
The nicest people were those who realised their fame was an accident of history, or a result of a special talent that had catapulted them temporarily into public view via the broadcast media.
They were making the most of their fifteen minutes of same, but the majority whom I met did not have lives that were significantly different from mine.
Key to happiness and contentment is not to compare yourself with others, and be grateful for what you have, especially your health.
