Not sure why superman being bi causes more offense or creates more attention than other changes made... well I do but still.
Also instead of it being pandering you could look at it as reflecting society as it is, and as it was then too just that people where to scared, oppressed and shamed to reflect it in the art of the time |

Time for me to put on my nerd hat - this isn't Clark Kent/Kal El as played by Chris Reeve, etc. It's the new Superman, the son of Clark and Lois. So all the people who say things like 'wHY dONT tHEY cREATE nEW cHARACTERS iNSTEAD oF mAKING mY cHILDHOOD fAVOURITES gay/black/trans/gender-swapped etc.' can relax - that's exactly what they've done here.
