I see motorists under attack again this morning as its our fault Ireland won't reach it's emissions target...never mind all the farting cows
The answer seemingly is to put more taxes on Petrol and Diesel and charge for using the city centre
I know I've changed my behaviour over the years to try to cut down on my carbon footprint
Have you changed...what taxes or charges would work in your opinion |

Tax diesel and petrol more....do away with road tax...the more you drive the more you pay...
Toll for entering cities
Start using more of the energy we are selling abroad...

"I walk if at all possible
Leftover food for packed lunches
Cars always 1.6 litres or below
Recycle
Reduced meat consumption and largely ethical if possible
That’s it " your the man.
I don't walk
All fresh food in lunch box
Cars always 3liters.with the job I have I need horsepower.
I'm abdicated to steak.
But in saying all that I do recycle.
And to makes matters worse I use turf and oil for fuel for house.
And I burn 100 gallons of diseal every day on the machine I drive for a living.
So I guess I'm bad |

It daft logic to think that tax increases will have any effect on your carbon footprint.. The only thing it does is burn a hole in your pocket.. Perhaps car manufacturers would offer a zero emissions alternative.. I still wouldn't buy an electric vehicle as the range is very poor.. I'll wait fir hydrogen vehicles to appear then buy 1.. 1.47 for diesel in my local garage 1.60 for petrol.. A disgrace is there ever was.. Coupled with gas and electric increases, it seems the shower of bastards in government are using carbon footprint as a rubbish excuse to gouge the already overly burdened tax payer for even more money.. |

Was he not driving a 2.5 liter vehicle up to recently ,when he changed his vagon, for a battery power vehicle.
What the ingredients in a battery??
Lithium is one of them.
Where does that come from?
It has to be mined from the earth's resources.
Bord na mona shut the doors this year.now we have no peat.and I'm hearing power cuts is now the new modern way of living.
Import is the answer,as 4000 tons of Latvian pear came into Ireland very recently.
So they whole lot is really a load of bollocks.
Remember ladies.sowing flowers, with your bags of peat compost.
A certain amount of you peat in bag will be bark mulch from a tree ,and silt from a gravel pit,to fill the bags.silt and bark mulch will grow noting ,but they have no choice I guess as peat is like gold now

We won’t stop buying crap! All the crap we buy has to be produced with energy. A lot of this stuff is dumped, from food, candles with scent ( ridiculous as they were only used for light, probably selling more than ever!) clothes, dido pieces of rubbish we have around the house, way too many toys, Xmas gifts.
Can you imagine if we actively tried to reduce consumption how bad it would be for the economies of the world?
We all need to change our behaviours, what we expect from life. The waste is brutal. It will catch up with some generation! |

Two sides to this story, yes we must reduce green house gases and i do the best I can apart from meat which I eat a reasonable amount of, I try all the other options to reduce my carbon footprint. But the other side is the country needs money to run and pay the massive national debt and there really are only two ways to get it.
1: increase corporation tax by a significant amount so to a rate of about 25% to 30% and tackle industrial and farming emissions
or
2: tax workers and the public in general. Our government has chosen option 2 so that's it folks. It doesn't matter how much you reduce reuse recycle your still gonna pay. |

For years in work I had to go to site meetings with about 10 different companies...all different mechanical and electrical contractors
We all had to drive there
Listen to everyone else for a couple of hours, say our piece and drive home
It couldn't be done online or by sending emails
Now after covid...it's done online and by sending emails
Definitely reduced carbon footprint that way |

Ireland's carbon footprint only accounts for 0.10 of the world's total carbon emissions. So if our country no longer existed, the worlds carbon dioxide levels would decrease by only one tenth of one percent. The Green party have been pushing hard for increased taxes on fossil fuels. So next time there is a general election, don't vote for the Greens, unless you want to die of hypothermia because the cost of heating your home becomes prohibitively expensive. |

Anyone else find it odd that we have closed the bord na mana plants as Turf burning is bad but can now import briquettes from Germany and Eastern Europe?
Presumably they come here on the back of trucks thousands of miles or in cargo ships

It's all green BS. We are totally dependent on cars and the government knows we will still drive them. It's simply a way to get more taxes in. As for the plans/initiatives to have 1M electric cars on the road by 2030 there is no follow on initiatives to provide the extra electrical energy to charge all these cars. With an expectation that by 2030 70% of electrical power will be required for data centres, you do wonder where it's all going to come from. Of course, FF and the Greens are likely to be wiped out at the next election so they can say what they like in order to satisfy the gullible masses in the full knowledge they won't be around in 5 years time so it wont matter a damm! |

In regards to EVs not only does lithium have to be mined to produce batteries but the electricity that will be needed to power such vehicles will be produced by power plants that burn fossil fuels so it defeats the whole purpose of zero emissions.. Hydrogen vehicles are the way to go.. They should have been manufactured 20 years ago imo... |

"I have gone green , sur the price of white diesel is a joke lol. "
Know someone who was fined €2000 for using green.. That's a compromised fine as in if you ignore revenue it goes to court and you pay €5000 plus legal fees.. Now he was using green since 2013 and reckons he saved €6000 so was laughing when he paid 2k fine |

I was in a store today and could not believe my eyes.
A 4kg bag of hay from Devon for 8.29 euro.
First of all that is in excess of 2000 euro/tonne but secondly we are encouraging farmers not to grow crops and yet it is ok to import hay.
Like the 4000 tonnes of Latvian compost that came into the country last week, it is not allowed to produce compost here but it is ok to import it.
I would really like to see the carbon footprint calculations for both the hay and the compost.
I, like I would think most people, will glady do my bit for the ecology and the environment but we need our policy makers and Government to lead in the drive for a better green planet, not to make a mockery of us by importing hay and compost. |

Personally l think Eamonn Ryan is one completely arrogant obnoxious smug fuckwit but thats only my opinion.. doesn't make me right.. doesn't make me wrong ..he closed the peat factories with job losses and now imports briquettes from Germany, he's raising tax on Petrol and diesel as if that's gonna drop the emissions , people still need to get to work so it's only gonna cost them more to get to work so they can be taxed more by the Government and it's not everyone that can afford all these new Hybrids etc cars and will only push those that can't into further debt to put one on the road ,he really hasn't a clue of what it takes the ordinary people on the street to keep going and he's only a part of the Current QUANGO Government that brought him on board cause they had no choice and they give him his slice of cake to keep him sweet and that's what he does, tax tax tax , petrol is now €1.60 a litre.... the greens were responsible for Australia burning when they stopped the winter burning of the scrub that was done for generations to help prevent bush fires...anyway in two weeks time the Budget is out and then we'll see it all unfold..be afraid...be very afraid. |

Buy less tech. Buy a phone or tablet that is good quality. Look after it and keep for number of years. No need to buy update every year or 2nd year.
In general about green, yes we have to change. Target of 2030 is probably too soon. But we are fucked anyway if other large countries in the world do not change drastically. For example, China has a 'singles day' to counteract valentine's day. On singles day, single people in China purchased something for themselves. I think the stats for the last singles day showed approx 2 billion purchases of shite for that one day alone for one country. We are doomed people. We are the vermin of this planet. |

The argument of 'Ireland is only a drop in the ocean' in comparison to big nations - yet we're all buying Chinese products - is a cheap foolish excuse. It's loads of drops that form the ocean.
Same can be applied to each single person. If we all start making changes and sacrifices, it will sum up eventually. I think there's huge potential if we change our ever increasing mad consumption habits for goods and food and return to less, local, seasonal.
As for the fuel taxes, the government always hits the easy target which is the end user. I don't think it changes much people's behaviour if it isn't accompanied with systemic changes and alternative measures on a higher level such as improving public transport and intergral and sustainable spatial/town/urban and environmental planning. The latter hasn't arrived yet on these shores cos the ones in power are too busy taking backhanders and creating 'employment' with multinationals. |

A worldwide approach is needed. We are less than a drop in the ocean in the Co2 emissions contributors.
USA has a population of approx 330m, we have 5m, most people out there are driving 6Ltr cars n 4x4s, we are rocking around in 1 and 2Ltr engines.
India has a population of 1.38Billion,over half of its power stations run on coal.
China is the biggest contributor of Co2 and Global warming, its population is over 1.4Billion, USA is second, we are at nothing, I know every little helps but our effort is a kin to emptying the Titanic of water with a 300mm jug while the USA, China and India pump water in on top of us.
And to explain millions versus billions, a million seconds is approx 12days, a billion seconds is approx 31yrs. So, unless China and India change global warming is only going to get worse in my opinion. |

I'm not altogether sure I'm buying into this so-called grean theme
I do my bit yes when it comes to recycling reused ect,cut down on unnecessary journeys so on..
There's a lot worse going on in the world never mind our little country yet we seem to be hit with stringent taxes
When you look at them they seem to hit most sectors and walks of life ,there seems to be no stopping them just pay and go on!
Frankly as I see it it's just gravy train ,Spanish train all the way whatever ya want to call it
It's high time a few carriages of members were put off the train and let people with a proven record run the show.
In Scandinavia they wouldn't entertain you in government unless you could prove your worth
It's down to the age old saying "people power". |

Summer 2024 was the coldest summer in nine years according to Met Éireann’s latest climate statement.
The average temperature overall this summer was 14.5C, the coldest since 2015 when the average was down at 13.87C.
It was a summer of poor weather overall with this June recorded as Ireland’s coldest ever on record, while this August was the second wettest ever recorded.
It isn't as simple as carbon control, that's just being sold to us.
After Covid it's virtually impossible to believe anything, especially scientific reports.

Anybody interested in the effectiveness of recycling should have a read of the report published by the Centre for Climate Integrity.
Recycling was invented as a placebo. The petrochemical companies knew decades ago that recycling was ineffective. Just as they knew the impact of burning fossil fuel on the climate.

My thoughts on this is increase renewable energy and more money to retrofit houses, how do we do this along with increasing the prices for driving we need to address other road users, cyclists have given out about drivers for too many years in my view.they have had a free ride and it's time for legislation and laws to be forced.we now have electric bikes and scooters on our roads that can achieve pretty decent speeds that can cause fatalities and long-term damage to people if there's an accident.now if your looking for more income here's a couple of ideas.every cyclists must complete a road knowledge theory and practical test and receive a license to prove completion and pay for that license.all cyclist must have a road worthy bicycle which must include lights the amount of bicycles and scooters I see without basic lights is incredible.fines must also be handed out for dangerous use of a vehicle on the roads.finally tax and insurance if you use the road pay for it.so if these things where brought in now at least we could raise more money to invest in the changesl |

I try and do my bit, with transport, recycling, single use materials etc.
But, if you think about larger countries in Asia and the Americas, we're pissing in the wind in this country trying to have any effect of pollution, environmental issues etc.
There are small towns in some countries doing more damage than our whole country.
Also find it incredibly embarrassing that our solution is always to increase tax. Pathetic effort really. |

The whole carbon offset nonsense gets me pissed off. The woodlands and forests of Ireland are counted against our carbon output, but all the hedges and hedgerows of the country are not!!! It's beyond belief, the amount of CO2 absorbed and recycled by the hedgerows alone would put us carbon neutral but for some unknown reason it's ignored.
Nonsense....
Carbon footprint was invented by PR companies representing Airlines to make the individual feel a responsibility for pollution by airlines , even though you were paying for the flight already. It's beyond belief the shit they throw that sticks, complaining about it does hey little too, Ming fights the good fight over in Brussels but it's a drop in the ocean. |
