I have to admit, you're selling it well |

I always envied people who cut grass for a living, driving up n down, it's hassle for people to interrupt and if ya fuck it up the grass will most likely grow back
Much more attractive than the current pile of excrement I deal with on a daily basis |

"We seem to have consultants now in every area except one and it’s an important one that seems to lacking these days and that is a common sense consultant. "
Is there anything more enjoyable than giving unsolicited advice |

Given how bright you are I suspect you’re senior and not being sufficiently challenged
The best way forward is a leadership programme that you can use to improve your current post or it will help you to find alternatives |

Maybe register your CV with an agency and see what they come up with; CPL , Sigmar, Osborne Recruitment agencies might be worth a try. |

I dunno sometimes I think there’s too much emphasis placed on liking people and being liked as a leader… there’s a lot to be said for just being willing to kick butt |

Agree
Two more things
1. There is no personality unsuited to being one. You can learn what to do and act it until it becomes the work you . And bits of it will seep into the life outside of work
2. Actually those posts can be far more autonomous , which suits the self driven types who don’t mind their Own company . And who find it hard to get away from fab ! |

Do some personality tests and look at the careers suitable for those personalities and see if any resonate with you.
Also think about what's more important to you....a job that matches your skills, a job that matches your personality or a job that matches your values. It's hard to get all 3, so it's good to know yourself what you are willing to compromise on.
If you are serious about it, Id encourage you to do it, you'll have old age regrets if you don't! |

"Bored with my job, any suggestions?"
Those of us who have stayed in a position for a long time easily feel lost. Talk to your boss, ask for other tasks or leave.there may be a better job waiting for you. I'm in my 50s so doesn't matter what I do now, the 50s me is just not as excited about working as the 20s me. Oh, and watch out all you 40 year olds, clinging onto your youth, like the flick of a switch suddenly you wonder how the fcuk you got old. Self employed and very happy. |

This made me laugh, and it's so true, tbh sick of working full stop and counting down to retirement. Couple of days a week at something and spend the rest of the time looking after house and garden, reading, dog walking and travel. I'm nearly done with the hamster wheel. |

I am assuming a change using the skills u have acquired as to take time to retrain at this stage would severely damage ur pension pot.
Or are u willing to reinvest in the training programmes aimed at starting point employees and go as they say in on the bottom rung
There's so much to be considered here but at this stage as u said ur not fulfilled doing the hamster wheel any more it may need an outside perspective along the lines of a life coach or career guidance professional |

The last couple of years I've taken an interest in politics as in getting involved.
The last few years in my area I've seen several new faces canvassing and got curious as to who they were and what they were other than members of local parties. Chatted to a few of them and asked around and found out most of them were useless tools who just happened to be well known in local farming communities or local GAA. And for that reason they were asked to run for local positions.

I'm 49 and my biggest regret in life was not finding a job I really love doing every day.
Its where you spend the most time in your life so go for it ,find something you doing, don't be in a job you hate, your mental health and well being is more important than a job you hate.
Do it now today !!!
I'm in the process of doing exactly this...

Not enough info for me to give advice, but I did change career so I'll share that so you can see if that helps
I was a scaffolder but my knees wouldn't handle climbing anymore after several injuries.
So I retrained in my local ETB training centre and now doing ICT support. I used to help my family with anything IT that is why I chose that course.
Working now 18mts doing support and couldn't be happier.
Hope this helps. |
