It's basically everything in all at once - egg whites, sugar, vinegar, cornflour then add 3 tablespoons of boiling water. Mix on high speed...usually takes 5-7 minutes for it to firm up

Ha ha I remember being at a wedding when the lights went down and in came all the chefs with the flaming baked Alaska's held high

Big in 70s. Not made once sine I was at catering college.

It died a death after a staff member caught fire in a hotel in Killiney in the nineties. Apparently hotels were using methylated spirits rather than brandy, as it was a lie cheaper. I think it has been lit and then just as the doors were about to open they sprayed more of it on for dramatic effect. It was horrendous.

The lady it happened to was a relative of one of my good friends. Absolutely horrific
