His most famous quote was about the Rolling Stones' decades of sitting sound, waiting between takes, or for concerts to start.

Definitely the end of an era, for those of us of a particular vintage.

Out of all the members of the Stones I didn’t think he’d be the first to die. Like if it were Keith, I’d understand given the amount of drugs he has consumed over the years!!

I guess you just never know!!

On BBC Radio 4's obituary programme, Last Word, that will be repeated on Sunday evening around 2030 hours, there will be an excellent tribute to Charlie Watts, Rolling Stones drummer and jazz enthusiast.

It was initially broadcast today 1600 hours and was an excellent oral tribute to an unusual and highly talented musician; and one of the very best dressed men of his generation , an enthusiast for bespoke Savile Row haute couture.

just about northside

Met him in Tower Records Wicklow Street 1994, chatted and got autograph. I've been a huge fan for 40 yrs. Slight empty feeling.

"Don't ever call me your drummer.....Your my fucking singer"

The late great Charlie to Mick following a row

Thanks for so many moments...Rocks off from Exile just one of many classics.

somewhere

One of my profile pics was a picture of me taken at a rolling stones concert a few yrs ago in croke park

After about 6 months admin removed it because the person behind me has his face showing and he probably didn't give permission for it to be used

I can't ask him now that he died during the week
