Crazy scenes in kabul. Surely the last 20 years should have seen the end of the taliban so I'm wondering how on earth has the American and British governments just gone in their for about 20 years and then just pull out and let the taliban just take over the entire Afghanistan in the blink of an eye. Surely the tailiban should be well defeated by now. Goes to show what ever the coalition forces were in afgan for wasn't to defeat tailiban but to get something more valuable and get out as soon as they found it.

Something not adding up here

And they just leave the people behind that they claim to have been protecting from tailiban for the last 20 odd years. Just like feeding them to the lions

The Americans struck up a deal the Taliban months ago.. They would withdraw troops if a peaceful transition was achieved.. That's why we haven't seen any major bloodshed yet that is.. In 6 months time we will see if they really have changed or is it a smokescreen..

Something not adding up, of course it does.

War is always about the same thing, money. America spreads the wealth about powerful people and justifies its extreme defense spending to protect its 'freedoms' it really is that simple. Just look at the WMD excuse to invade Iraq. Internationally reviewed and condemned but they went ahead anyway as they were always going to and didnt expect their excuse to get rumbled so soon. No1 holds them go account so whats to stop them continuing to act as they do.

War mongerers, murderers, bastards. Were it starts and ends.

I think it's sad that so many men and women have died or been injured over there, both military and civilians, and it seems to have been for nothing. Not to mention all the terror attacks over the world.

It's going back to how it was before 9/11. Taliban and sharia law. Oppression and terror. Russia and USA couldn't change the country, no one will.

Naas which is South West of Dublin

The Taliban were never the target, Al-Qaeda was and they are now considered to be gone.

It’s a very tough situation, help is sometime seen as unwanted intervention, staying to long after helping is something seen as just an excuse or controlling, leaving is sometimes seen as abandonment.

Most people would be happy to just let the Middle East sort out their own problems, as long as neither they, nor innocent people are effected, which will never happen.

The American press was writing about G. Ford, the president of the US responsible for the Saigon evacuation, that "...he is so dumb that he can't fart and chew gum at the same time". So here we are again, the parallel is clear.

Dublin South

Hard to be hard on Biden. If I was an American I wouldn't want my son or daughter over there. And yes they are guilty of misdeeds the world over, but they also underwrote european freedom in ww2. The north of France is full of dead Americans to prove it. And say what you want I'd rather live in a world with American influence rather than Chinese or Russian. Funny how those critical of America are never as vocal about the other two.

Afghanistan has no solution to peace. It never stood a chance! It has been a country at war for lifetimes long before Russians even went there.

Al Qaeda attacked the west for the very thing they have now done again! Meddle in their country’s affairs, try and impose their way of life, then leave the country in ruins. The various attacks carried out previously by Al Qaeda will return sadly.

The Americans did not leave Afghanistan in ruins. They have invested hugely, much has been bleed away by pure corruption. Women were being educated, worked in military, etc. The Afghan army ran without even fighting, 300k soldiers! Biden was right to go, of course there will be casualties but why aren’t ye giving out about a horrible group of people called the Taliban. Why is the USA getting the blame?

Nobody is saying about any hope for the long term success in Afghanistan. However the way it is organized is a pure disgrace and humiliation. Biden blaming anyone but not himself for people falling of the military plain, it is below any known standard.
