Not sure its the specific words (babe, hun, luv etc..) as the context the false familiarity just gives off a creep vibe I think. Saying that the actual word babes offends my ears I always hear it in a London ditzy twang |

"Why did wonen find the words babes so offensive I always thought it was a compliment fir a lady to be called babes"
Depends on the woman in question.
Personally, I don't mind being called babes or hun or love, by certain people, I do mind by some though. It always depends on context. I've used these terms too, as a form of endearment. There are times where these terms are inappropriate or sleezy, not in a fun way...so it's up to you to find out when it's acceptable for which woman |

Someone above alluded to the false familiarity of it, I wouldn’t use it straight away, if I hadn’t already exchanged a few messages already!
I can understand why it is annoying, in much the same way as someone I barely know would call me mate or pal or bud!
It just seems creepy to me!! |

If it’s used in an opening message or early in a conversation exchange then we’d be passing on the lad.
We find it over familiar, generic, false, and outdated even (as others have mentioned).
Can understand that terms of endearment can be used when folks get to know each other well enough which is fine, but otherwise we find it comparable to an old lad in a pub trying to hit on a woman.
Not as bad as a wolf whistle but in the same territory. |

I don’t really use the term babe or babes. It sounds like something you would say if you’re 16 lol. I would mostly use hun or sweetheart and only as a term of affection or endearment. |

"Everything is offensive now days , some people just want to be offended nd to be offended for others , it has gotten out of control now "
People can dislike things without it being a massive deal or being greatly offended by it.
I find some people get more outraged by the perceived offense than the actual original issue |

I don't mind if it's someone I chat to for a while. From someone new it just makes me roll my eyes a bit the same as being called Hun etc would. It's because if the over familiarity of it but it's definitely not the worst or offensive. |

Don't overdo it though, that's a bit obvious |

Pet names, terms of endearment & BDSM titles are more than acceptable when I know the person & we have a familiar enough relationship that it's appropriate.
I dislike strangers trying to endear themselves to me in an opening message with hun, babe etc. I'm not offended by it btw, I simply dislike it & well be less likely to read the profile or reply to the message when it's included.
I don't mind it so much from servers or people working in a shop who are trying to add a friendly tone to a transaction. |

"Yes I understand in some ways it might offend but in most conversation it messages if intended as a compliment ."
Intent doesn't equal impact. You can mean well and still make someone uncomfortable.
For me, it's overly familiar and belittling. You don't know me to be calling me a pet name. |

I don't like to hear it from people I don't know. It just seems... presumptuous? It wouldn't put me off someone completely but it would get an eyeroll.
I will say its infinitely preferable to slut, which a lot of guys on here seem to think is an acceptable "hello" ha ha |

"Yes it should be used when a person get know a woman I never realized it could offend a woman"
It doesn't offend me, just means I view the man in question as lazy and somewhat lacking in social skills. That's just me though, like wolf-whistling, no doubt some women lap it up |

I call my girlfriend babe, she likes it. I used to call my ex hun and that was fine until after we split and I took a while to get out of the habit She didn't like that! I wouldn't use either with a stranger. |

I can handle 'hun' now, when first here I used to end conversations over the familiarity of it.
but even girls use it to each other so I had to get used to it!!
Babe no, please dont infantilise me please. |

don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day
(Be impressed if anyone gets that reference)
As for babe, well if u know someone then I'd say its ok. Dropping it in first message or with someone you don't know wouldn't be my thing but each to their own and whatever makes ppl happy |
