1. Sometimes landlords cancel , for no reason , other than they might think swingers are booking
2. Sometimes the attendees cancel , mostly because real life shit happens
3. Trying to keep numbers of both genders equal is impossible , see above
4. It helps to look nerdy . Landlords think you’re boring and don’t charge you an enormous damage deposit
5. It helps to have a script, if you’re asked about why a single adult is booking family accommodation
6. It helps to be an insomniac. Somebody is bound to want to stay up with you
7. Food and wine are vital
8. Towels . See separate thread
9. It’s a part time job
10. The right mix of people is everything

Just a suggestion as I have experienced this and thought it would be ideal for ye folk that are in a position to play, no pun intended! Hire boats on the Shannon, loads of private places to pull in, lots of islands with jetty’s that are totally private. Scenery is fab also. |

That's very true. We're lucky enough to have a few regular guys. When we find reliable ones we tend to hold on tight to them lol. |

Any party I've organised if there were single guys there they were ones I knew to be respectful (non creepy) and reliable, occasionally I'd not know them if being brought as a 'plus 1'.
When selected right I found them to certainly not be more likely to cancel than a couple or single fem. In most cases they were more likely to be the ones to show up. |

I wonder if it is to do with
1. Because of the ratios , you have to send a message telling people about how wonderful you are as a single male, building a certain level of expectation for yourself
2. If you’re invited , you realise that the female attendees are often confident and assertive and start worrying about your performance so you cancel .
From my perspective , having discussed it with the core attendees , being sound and reliable trumps porn star qualities always . Everyone knows how to have sex . |

Not every lad can 'perform' in public though, as in with someone other than the girl you're with in the room. At parties it may not be possible to always get private space and some lads can't handle that, which makes me wonder why they went in the first place but I guess with some they don't realise until they are put in that position |

"11. try to book places that have several beds in one room "
And even better rooms where beds can be pushed together. I helped organise a hotel party once where we pushed several beds together. Easier where headboards and lockers aren't mounted to the wall |

Very true , but it’s good if the room already has a set up you can work with or only need to slightly modify . I normally only get there 30 minutes before the first guests so barely time for a shower , opening windows closing curtains etc |

12. I do think organisers have a ‘pastoral’ duty ! Weird bringing religion to this but I couldn’t find a better description . I think if you’re inviting people then their safety and comfort is your business . Maybe harder with massive events but a smaller one in the single figures absolutely . How are they getting to your event ? How are they getting back ? What if something happens at your event ? Most of the time as an organiser you’re not needed for these things but if you’re asked you have to , IMO, oblige and help. |
