Your experience will vary massively depends on what area you move from , what area you move to , research you have done on the move , your willingness to get involved in the community , whether you Have kids or not , your interests in all things Irish such as politics , your tolerance of wetter weather , and your love of nature and outdoor activities . Essentially it’s what you make it but there are very few places which can offer you this quality of life |

Irish but went to London for 10yrs.
Moved back when I got the chance.
Moved originally to a city centre location for a year or so and then to a more suburban part of Dublin.
So I've experienced both.
Happy to chat about either, without Fab strings/connotations.
PM me if you do want to chat |

Moved from Glasgow in 2002 , Ireland is now my home would never go back...life is a lot more laid back or relax in general life than Scotland & UK for me took at least couple of years to fully integrate Irish life. Best of luck with the move |

The west coast of Ireland is a beautiful place with some lovely people. You will need to drive though as public transport wouldn't be anything like in the uk. I live in the west and any advice you need, I'd be more than happy to give |

It's nice to hear positive things.
I'm quite familiar with Ireland as I visit often to see family. I'm also from a big city so definitely won't find the transition to Dublin too difficult.
I think the biggest issue for me is money as obviously from what I've seen it's much more expensive in Dublin than where I live for sure. I also think I'll miss things like free health care etc that we have over here and I have a daughter so I worry how different the school system might be compared to here. Also, we have a great benefit system to fall back on in the UK if things go badly and not 100% sure on how that works in Ireland. My partner and myself will be looking for work and living with family for a while so that cost of living isn't an urgent matter thankfully.
I've still got a while to go yet before we move but I'll definitely write a list of all my worries and speak to family and also do more research into life in Ireland.
But I'm glad I've read you've all enjoyed your moves and you're happier for it.
Thank you! |

Ireland is beutiful but you will probably find Dublin a bit overly congested and expensive. On the plus side dubs are super friendly, an their are parts that of Dublin that are really nice.
Why not move to the country |

I moved here in the nineties.
Things I missed:
-NHS, health care can be expensive if you don't have care plans or your not working. Even at that there are alot of things not covered on the medical card or insurance.
-Friends, the Irish are well known for their hospitality, but found them quite clanish in the small town where I lived, luckily I had family so most of my friends new my cousins.
-Public transport it is really poor the further you get from Dublin (I lived in London was super handy)
Things I loved:
-Slower pace of life (although it has changed dramatically over the last 20 or so years)
-Craic agus ceol, the Music Here is ingrained in us Irish.
-Pub, its really a social event in Ireland not like England where its full of d*unken louts.
-Country living, I moved out to the sticks and the mountains lakes and scenery is captivating, all within a cycle short drive.
Hope you have a wonderful move.
Ps the swinging scene here is super small.

The OP hid their profile immediately after posting but this thread is still popular
I would start a new profile in Ireland personally as search wise it makes things easier and it means people contacting you are clearer about locations |

Be sure to tell everyone it's coming home they seem to love that right now
But on another note also a English and from the Midlands, living here the last 15 years. Over time you learn to not miss all the things you are used to and just suck it up so to speak.
Its a tough transition, but since you're moving into a big city from a big city it's not going to be as bad. |

Moved back around 8 years ago after 10 years in UK. It wasn't all plain sailing. Takes a while to adjust. You'll still get the BBC so it's not too bad to adjust. |
