So Laura just informed me that Love Island is back today.

Is it going to be the same grotesque silly self obsessed body perfect nonsense as before... or are they going to try something a bit more realistic and inclusive this time?

I'd rather piss battery acid while ironing my ball sac than sit through one second of that shite.. Feeds body image issues gratuitously.

I'M VERY EXCITED! Love Island is my Olympics, my Premier League, my fantasy football, and the only thing more enjoyable than watching it is watching people get VERY ANGRY at its existence

I don't watch it, but to be honest if I was, I would rather look at Instagram models in bikinis, than random everyday folk.

Conventionally attractive, sexy people is what sells ad space, so I don't think they are gonna change anything.

Whatever way they go with it we won't be watching it. Rather watch paint dry then watch reality TV

It's always amusing when people talk about quality on here and how they prefer to be approached and spoken to and yet vapid shallow programmes like that are so popular.

I've nothing against reality TV per se. It's the lack of diversity. The whole concept seems to be based on this 1950's vision of pretty straight girls and boys preening and peacocking in front of each other. Its like they all came out of a mould.

I find the majority of those types of shows are like that. Big brother etc

The very first series of Big Brother was interesting because it was fresh and new. I gave up in the second series after 3 or 4 episodes because it was total crap and haven't watched any since including I'm a celeb which is a misnomer as they are all has beens or wannabes.

I did watch early big brother.. but there WAS a much more varied type of person in those shows, and that was 20 years ago. Things are going backwards.

Its gas watching people write super uppity, snobbish, the usual 'I'm too cerebral and superior to you plebs to watch that shite'comments anytime reality TV is mentioned but many of the same posters will jump on threads like 'who has the best boobs', 'kiss, lick, fuck or chuck' or some other type or nonsense, teenage level thread. You could say the irony is too much

I've a feeling this thread will be rehashed again and again throughout the show. I did watch it when Maura from Longford was on it. They had no idea how to take her and it was hilarious to watch. I will throw an eye on it now after reading all the above posts.

Did she create the " fanny flutters " line or was it well known before she went into the villa

I have never watched Love Island, but I frequently watch the episode of Big Brother where the Indian actress, Shilpa Shetty is racially abused by some of the other people on the programme.

It is an education as to how idiotic, uneducated, crass, bigoted racists behave.

I understand it is used in some schools to provoke class discussions about race.
