Hi ladies,

looking for advice. I know it's not exactly the season for boots BUT I have been trawling the net forever more and have had the dream to own a nice pair of over-the-knee boots! I see a lot of beautiful photos here of some of you and am truly envious - though never begrudge anyone, of course .

Now my biggest problem is that I have super narrow calves so I cannot buy high street! Believe me, I've tried! Not for knee boots either. They never ever fit, my legs just swim in any boot here. I've had luck in the past buying on the continent, where different calf sizes are more readily available. BUT travel is out of the question for me at the moment.

I also want to invest in quality. Hence I would not have a problem buying online and having a pair of boots made to measure. BUT it seems with Covid any online retailer I have come across doesn't offer this service anymore...

So do any of you ladies have any advice - for a good quality, over the knee leather boot, made to order...any help is very much appreciated x

Good luck with your search. I have the opposite problem my thighs are to thick so it's a struggle to fit into thigh high boots.

Argh.

So a cousin of mine had a made to measure pair a good few years ago. She’s a proDomme. My god they were like wellies. They fit her on the calves and knees but were loose on the thighs and baggy but stiff at the ankles. They were awful.

She ended up getting a pair of decent Italian leather ones that were too big and taking them to an old-fashioned boot maker. He took them in for her and they’re amazing. That was in London tho.

Maybe could you consider that?

Thanks for the advice - I know that's the fear that I have with ordering to measure - won't fit properly after all, paid extra for it and can't be returned! Mind you, I'm looking for over-the-knee, not thigh high...

I had thought about a saddler/shoe maker, not sure of the correct term, but had in years gone by asked a shoe maker about altering a pair of boots, and he couldn't, but I'm not sure if that was because of how seams and zips had been placed on the boots...definitely food for thought - anyone know any shoemakers lol?

A Cobbler makes shoes. Should be able still to find a handful around the country. It's a dying trade, but a craft none the less.

Good luck OP

Thank you - that is the website I have been keenly following, waiting for them to bring back their made to measure service! They have the most fabulous boots!!!

I might see if I can find a cobbler (thank you for letting me know the correct term for the profession whoever you were - I can't remember the name as I'm typing this ) to see if they can adjust the boot to fit!

Thank you to all of the rest of you for your kind suggestions. I appreciate it!

As per earlier post if you went down the road of buying a pair you like in your size there is a spa is lost in the city centre that modifies them, he repairs leather corsets and all leather gear. It’s in a good option if you you don’t want to wait.

Another fab link to boots, someone special told me about.

The boots I had my eye on for months are now sold out in my size so even a cobbler is out of the question for alteration.

I'm sure the right boots will come up for the right time

I am now looking for a cobbler who alters boots. I have found one or 2 on the net.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a decent cobbler, preferably south Dublin, north Wicklow...or the name/location of the above mentioned city center (city center is big enough ) place?

I went to a guy in Dublin City centre in 2019. He repaired a pair of my old boots for me (not worn in years). Now it was mainly resoling and treating the leather but I'm happy with the work he did. PM me for more details if you like
