It depends on what plan you're on. You can have unlimited photos in their 'high quality' resolution which is 16megapixels. You can change to set it to backup in the original quality, but you can only backup photos until you use you're free allowance of space which is 15gb. That 15gb includes all your google services incl Gmail and drive, so there often isn't too much space left for photos. I subscribe to the 50gb tier which means I can use original quality for photos and they are never downscaled (until I hit that limit at which point I'll subscribe for a tier up). |

With video it downscales to 1080p on the free tier, and the same goes with the original quality tier. Obviously you will fill up your 15gb allowance pretty quickly with video at higher than 1080p if you use original quality. |

Depends on your backup settings.
If you have selected Original Size and you go over 15GB it will switch to "high quality". Some people only have it set to high quality by default. |

So how do I restore to the original quality? I downloaded a few videos back onto my phone from Google photos and still the same poor quality. Where do I find the settings to change if that's possible. Thanks for the previous responses guys |

"Yeah unfortunately the whole point of them recompressing it down is to save space so they don't keep a copy of the original file. Is it definitely not on your device?"
Was clearing up space on my phone so transferred them over. Definitely not on it |
