"The Belfast Telegraph have reported that some bars are charging £6.50 a pint now as they start to open up again. I haven't been out for a drink yet, are these extortionate price hikes common?"
No idea what they were charging before as I don't drink but price rises were predicted months ago but weren't expected to be implemented until later in the year. Some bars apparently have decided to introduce them now. |

I think many people are now so used to buying cheaper drink from off licences that they won't buy as much when they're out at these prices. A slight increase was expected but no one likes being ripped off. |

"The cost of all socialising will rise as establishments try to recoup losses and take advantage of pent-up demand"
This. Ill be choosing smaller independent bars, drinking locally produced drinks and then I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra to make sure we still have decent bars and brewers in business for the coming years. |

Well they can F right off!
So many people trying to survive on PUP and the like and they want to recoup losses on what was already a seriously profitable business?
Perhaps this is why government are introducing minimum unit pricing in supermarkets?
So the gulf between home drinking and the pub doesn't seem as much!
Having started home-brewing during lockdown, perfecting and now selecting exactly what I like, I'm drinking pints of gorgeous beer at less than a euro.
It'll be a rare occasion that I go to a pub in future if they're going to try and feckin shaft me for the profits they missed during lockdown |
