Like most we aren't meeting till covid ends, but what defines the end for you?

Is it after next week when some services reopen, or after June 7th when hotels are open?

Or will it be when the government announce covid is finally gone(if that's even possible)

Frankly, I will be treading very cautiously; this pandemic crisis is going to rumble on for much longer than most people anticipate; in Ireland I sufficient numbers have currently been vaccinated and viral hotspots, such as Donegal, will continue to necessitate control measures to deter irresponsible behaviours.

Once the winter of 2021/2 is over, we will more accurately know whether herd immunity has been achieved, and whether the various vaccines provide sufficient protection from domestic mutant strains.

It is vital that potentially more virulent strains are prevented from arriving from countries such as India, south America and Africa, where vaccination rates are low and infection numbers are growing exponentially, that is, growing uncontrollably.

It'll literally never be over. The world has changed, irrevocably.

But then again, it never really materialised into what we feared, luckily enough.

Probably September if the vaccine roll out picks up. If I'm going to have a party it will probably only be for people who've had the vaccine.

Covid19 isn't going to end. If you're waiting for the government to announce its gone then you'll be waitinf forever. It's just going to be a different risk profile as we move forward. Everyone will have to decide themselves what they are comfortable with.

Got my first vaccine last weekend

Second one due in 4 weeks

After I got it the doctor entered all the info onto a database that I gave him permission to input my details

Dose/ batch / date

He actually said by July they would probably issue covid passports directly to those with the full 2 shots

I'd imagine thats the plan for most people ...2 doses and a booster every year

I don't have a problem flashing my covid passport on my phone to get back to some normality in my life

This is one of the things that concern me when people say northern Ireland are further ahead with vaccinations.

I got my first on 1st March through my GP but wasn't given a date for the second. I rang last week to find out and they still can't give me one. I will get a call on the day or the day before they want me to come in.

That wouldn't be a return to normality though.

It's a horrifying thought tbh

To use that well known phrase....it's the new normal

In one of my jobs I could be in the middle of a standing crowd of 50,000 people all jumping, singing and having a great time

I feckin hope they have to show a vaccine passport to get in there

It's the thin end of the wedge.

This isn't some sort of once in a lifetime event.

There are trillions upon trillions of viruses in existence, and they mutate rapidly.

We can't do this every time.

Chubbs Peterson says it's all in the hips but I believe it's all in the notes

Agree, otherwise why have a vaccine at all. It's the way out of this. I was lucky to be vaccinated in jan and the relief was amazing. So now I want to be able to enjoy the benefits of it. Covid always has and always will be here (common cold is a covid virus) so we jist have to learn to live with it.

Now all we need is a restaurant, a bottle of red and boob...lots of boobs

Actually the nursing homes are the safest places to be these days

I don't think its an issue with those that are vaccinated but more that those who aren't feeling that their noses are being rubbed in it just because they haven't yet qualified to get vaccinated. Once we reach the magical 80% I think those who aren't will have justify to them selves as to why they arent afforded the same freedoms

While I agree with you in theory the fact that every one couldn't just rock up and get vaccinated in jan leads to some having to wait till those in their category have qualify to be vaccinated. Those of us who were lucky enough to avail of early vaccination due to health implications or job title should have the decency to hold back till at least a reasonable amount of herd immunity has being reached.
