hi all, bowel screening is been highlighted so much at the moment, particularly for people over 60. asking you to register and sign up for bowel screening. I urge anyone 60 and over to do so. my father has colon cancer, very little symptoms, clear stool samples, bloods normal and had a tumour that was told could be there 2.5/3 years. its one of the most common cancers but very treatable if caught in time. don't put off getting yourself checked.

Get screened! Take all the screenings that are offered for your age & gender.

I know too many who left it too late

Great advice, and I've told my own parents and brothers to get screened for cancer after I was diagnosed last year, it's no bloody picnic.

I think when it's in the family, it's even more important to follow screenings. I don't know enough about cancers but when you see how subtle bowel cancer can be, it's unbelievable.

I hope your Dad recovers well. I work in colorectal care and i can't agree more about getting screened, monitor any change whatsoever in bowel habit and contact GP immediately. I've seen too many sad cases ages 30+ who waited too long as they were embarrassed

Same here. My father had no symptoms. Mass was larger than they thought. Chemo, radiotherapy and operation.

It’s a free service, like the cervical check. Please use them. It may just save your life

Yup. Get screened. I've had mine done. Paranoid over family history of C, so my doc wrote away for an appointment.

A lot of men die with it, but not necessarily because of it.

Fuck your pride,

Let the doc fondle your sack. Let them insert a finger. Check your man boobs. Don't be afraid of the camera.

Pride will kill you. Your family will suffer too.

As far as I know its a home test kit.

You collect a stool sample and send it off. Anything abnormal and you get referred

its a home kit and your stool sample is examined in a number of ways I think and senses abnormalities. problem with stool sample given to doc and sent away, it can be OK and you can still have bowel cancer. push always for a colonoscopy.

colonoscopy I believe isn't that bad and can also detect polyps which might turn into cancer in time.

It's not bad if you're sedated. But you need soneone to take care of you after it. I got let down, had to forgo sedation...

On a plus note, my colon was very straight

Largely things can be detected from blood tests these days. Avoids the dreaded finger.

But as the dude said, go for the camera.

Mine was detected initially with a blood test then colonoscopy and ct scan confirmed it. When your in getting chemo you realise so many under 50 fighting it . Don't wait is my advice if you think something is different. Difficultly swallowing seems to be an indicator too. Now I've met loads who have a difficulty swallowing

Gents have a colonoscopy...if you're clear yippee if not you have a great chance to beat it. My grandfather and two of my uncles all passed away in their 40s fron this disease.

Treatments have moved on loads in the last 20 years. Much more survivors today but time is the big factor.

I have a colonoscopy every 3 years as there is family history of bowel cancer. I was early 50's for my first colonoscopy, was very lucky as things were caught just before they turned cancerous. In between these tests I use the free bowel screening service.

I would strongly advise everyone to get screened.
