I don't know about nord vpn (I use surfshark) but there should be a setting to try different connection protocols. Have a mess about with those settings. There might be something on your phone blocking that connection method. |

"Have you reinstalled, cleared the data and the cache etc.?
You don't have any firewall on it or anything?"
Tried all of the above, also the Samsung tab has no firewall!!
Downloaded to Samsung galaxy phone and works no problem. Its just that I hate using phones for computing |

The next thing I would try is using the standard openvpn client from the appstore and setting up a manual connection using your nord userid/password/server. You might need a certificate for the sever also. Im sure the nord website will give you instructions on setting up an openvpn connection on pc, but it can work in exactly the same way on android. |

No worries. It might well fail in the same way, as these apps usually use openvpn in the background anyway.. but you may well get a better error message or more connection options that might get you going. |

"When you say openvpn, is this a free one?"
It's open as in free AND open as in soure.
Openvpn is the traditional client and server technology that many VPN providers use to establish a secure connection between your device and their network. They provide their own app which can be used instead of the VPN providers if desired. It's great that it's open source which means it's easily auditable so hopefully there aren't too many backdoors or addidental-deliberate holes that allow snooping on your secure connection. |

"You should try Hola VPN. It's free and I found it very good when working abroad. "
I'd be cautious with hola. It's not a real VPN as it's peer to peer so other users are using your device to upload and download while you're connected. If they are doing something dodgy then it could potentially come back on you. The reason it's free is because they just share out the bandwidth of their users bather than have a network of their own. |
