Had this conversation the other day and had a giggle about my first car
A bright blue Fiat Cinquecento
Or my Cheekycento as I liked to call it
I almost wrote off that car so many times I'd say it was glad to see the back of me.
So what was your first little run around? And did you have a pet name for it? |

A 1982, 1 litre Ford Fiesta. Never had a pet name for any car though.
In the 30 years since I've had 4 company cars so only actually owned about 8 others but can still remember how it felt to drive that wee car. |

Friend of mine had one of those, though we referred to it as a 'cunt-to-get-into' ! |

A volkswagon golf... I think I bought it 5th hand.. The ashtrays were full of bolts and screws, the drivers door would swing open going around a corner, 3rd gear appeared when it felt like it. It had wipers belong to a coach so were too long for the windscreen. It back fired a lot so scared the divine shit out of every pet in the parish and when I went to repair something in the boot I found a gun in the spare wheel... Took it to the guards who said it was a starting pistol. |

Bought it for £2400 in 1985 so it was 3 years old and my first ever third party fire and theft insurance was £214. Found the receipt and policy a couple of months ago. |

My first car was a shiny new black Vw polo. Gotta love that new car smell. I still remember driving it home from the garage proud as punch and then the realisation of being part the real world and that I had to pay for this now |

First car was a Black 96 Ford Fiesta, Nicknamed Sheila - And it was the best car I ever owned.
Obviously no power steering, heater didnt work, but she started every single morning without fail
Paid €900 for it, and €3000 to insure it. |

I was a late starter in driving... I was 25 & got a white polo. I loved it! Until I locked my 22 month old daughter in it with the keys... you know the days when you pushed the button down to lock a door... 2 hours spent trying to get into the damn thing! Traded in a few months later with remote central locking- no buttons!! |

"Xr3i peach of a car corned on rails "
Had an Xr3i in Germany in 94, absolutely loved that little rocket of a car.
It came with no papers but that didnt matter as i had no licence or insurance etc.
It was a UK reg and was unlimited, they had started limiting the speed on them in the UK because of the boy racers
We used to zip up and down the autobahns at 130mph+++ |

Your phone will locate your car if you were driving it last
You can also buy a Bluetooth tag that you leave hidden in the car
( its very small )
If someone steals your car you can see it on google maps |

An ‘89 mini, not one of these modern German minis, a proper Morris mini
I’d love to have another, literally like driving a go kart, including the feeling of sitting a couple of inches off the ground |

First car was called squeaky he was a citroen saxo. I lived in wales and a cable died in engine. Mechanic couldnt fix. So to start him I had to put keys in, lift bonnet, spark dud cable off the battery and started. Always got funny looks in car parks |

Mine was a green Mitsubishi Colt. Loved that car and never had an ounce of trouble with it. I helped so many people move house using it. It never ceased to amaze me how much I could cram into it Unfortunately had to trade it in as a two door isn’t good with kids car seats so got a sensible car |

Like quite a few mine was a fiesta a navy one. I thought it was the best thing on the road at the time had spotlights on her and all despite the fact that if you went over 50 she rattled and shook something rotten, the boot was tied closed with bailer twine and you aren't park her on a hill cos god knows where she would end up.But we travelled all over in her and she was so reliable to start and go and cost virtually nothing to run. |

My first car was in 1991. An Opel Manta 1.8. Great car. 1995-Renault 5. 1998 an Awful Alfa-worst car I have owned. My first good car in 2002 An Audi A3. My first new car in 2005 a MK 5 golf which was stolen in 2011. That was replaced by my recession car-a 2005 Honda Civic. 2015 a MK 6 Golf Highline-best car I ever owned. My current car is a fine one and brought it from UK in 2018.

"1990 Peugeot 205 xrad van. I drove the bag out of it. Had a fairly strong crash in it one night, rolled it a few times. I repaired it myself and drove it on. Got a few good years in it. "
I had the fiesta equivalent so a lot of boy racer type van races at traffic lights
Those were the days |

"A 1981 Toyota Corolla K30. Great reliable car except for the rust. It rotted off the road."
I had a friend who always bought Nissan. He claimed they got more economical the older they were as they got progressively lighter as bits fell off. |

A VW Golf diesel (from the late-1970s) that had been subjected to numerous botched repairs that I had been unable to spot when I purchased it.
It was returned after one month for a full refund.
What a heap of scrap; what an idiot I was to buy it. |

1989 Dihatsu Charade, put it over 2 ditches in my time and still didn't kill it. Eventually blew the head gasket and got the head re skimmed and sold it at the car auctions then about a year later I spotted it outside a cafe in Dingle with cushions on the back window, looked like wind old lady has bought it! If she knew the things the happened in that car lol |

1974 mini. Still remember the reg. Tki 784. Was yellow so out with the paintbrush and turned it a lovely gloss black. Bitch to polish with the brush strokes though. Couldn't afford wide wheels so I put the wheel rims on back to front which made handling kinda hairy. Got rid of when I was told I looked good in a mini lol. But not b4 my first was conceived in it |

"A Hilman hunter 1725 nest car I ever had had many a ride in it ??"
We used to have a Hillman Hunter in the late 70s. It was metallic teal blue with double go-faster stripes and two sets of cibies on the front. My God that thing could shift! Some car that was |

First car I bought a Honda Civic just like the one Hightower rips front seat out of in Police Academy.
First car I could legally drive as owner a Fiat Uno.
Great wee cars but original Fiat Bravo was the best. Low centre of gravity and gutsy engine for the size. Held the road beautifully. A brilliant drive |
