Leading on from Dublin expressions led me to my favorite Irish film
The Commitments
I've watched this so many times in the lockdown with my youngest that we now share the expression " Fuck me I just saw Imelda Quirkes arse coming over the wall " when something funny happens in the house.
There's so many made here or counted as Irish
Whats your favourite and why |

Angela's Ashes
Even if it did make Limerick look more miserable than it is
I remember when they were casting extras for the film all schools were asked to recommend any kids that 'looked sick' |

I see a dark stranger is a film made in Ireland in 1946.
It was filmed in the Cooley/Dundalk area and starred Deborah Kerr and Trevor Howard; the film was produced by the famous film makers Gilliat and Launder.
The story involves a Nazi plot, and for those interested it is repeatedly broadcast on TPTV (Talking Pictures TV) which can be found on Freeview Channel 81. |

Sword of Sherwood Forest was made in 1960 in the Powerscourt area near Bray; Ardmore Studios.
The only actor who starred in both the 1950s famous TV series, made by Lew Grade's company, and this attractive film was Richard Greene who died in 1985, aged 65. |

The Magdalene Sisters is one of the most terrifying films, almost a docudrama for its portrayal of a sadistic abuse of power and warped sexual attitudes that pervaded this country for decades.
I actually visited one of those institutions many decades ago, and when I returned to a Christian Brothers school and cited the injustice of what I had witnessed, I was lambasted by another pupil whose family were closely linked to the Catholic Church, that I left after being propositioned by a priest.
There is a video online that formed the basis for this shocking film; worth watching. |

Aye, 'twas me mentioned it alright. It's an incredibly powerful film, both funny and tragic at the sane time. |

"The crying game
Shiver me timbers!
Your man didn't know she had a flute until the end!

Good film with everything the 80s had, the troubles, great sound track and an unconventional love story |
