Absconding from quarantine in Dublin

The fact that three people who had been obliged to into a quarantine facility, were simply able to walk out, speaks volumes about this eshambolic measure.

The single Irish Army liaison officer does not have a poet of arrest, but could make a citizens arrest, and the contact the unvaccinated Gardai.

I was deeply suspicious about this measure and its management from the outset.

Simply a publicity stunt, that is a shambles.

I said the same. How were they going to impose the quarantine? They were hardly going to hire people to follow people 24/7. You're literally banking on people to do the right thing. The country is a laughing stock.

"Please take it to the Virus forum"

Why? It is an Irish related discussion.

I love how they make it sound like something out of the film the Rock or escape from Alcatraz. There is limited public transport numbers. So they are in Dublin. Probably walking and carrying a bag. Hardly a page turner if it was a book. "We walked out the front door of the hotel, tasting the outside for the first time in 24 hours. It was so sweet. But no time to savour it, I wheeled my big red bag over to the bus stop. And bolted to freedom. 15 mins up the road in a mates house.

This country is a joke.. 9 months ago yes 9 months ago government was advised to implement hotel quarantine measures but they did nothing as usual.. Inept politicians getting paid a fortune who don't care about the public..9 months later they do what the should have done but make a bollix of it.. There are numerous ways to avoid this hotel quarantine and 1500 euro every 2 weeks bs.. Country is a mess..

WOW SHOCK HOROR

People not respecting our nations laws and abiding by lockdown restrictions, jeepers who would have thought that could possibly happen in Ireland.

Seeing as we generally as a nation delight in ignoring what we are asked to do l really don’t see how we can be so sanctimonious and finger pointy when others do the same

As more people on the entire island of Ireland are vaccinated and infection rates progressively drop, then quarantining will assume more and more importance in order to prevent introduction and spread of mutations/variants.

My disbelief and irritation is that they cannot get this vital measure implemented successfully from the very outset, when numbers are low!

Yup the whole thing is a publicity stunt by the government. They're so inept that they even fuck up their own stunt in record time.

The list of countries that require to quarantine when travelling from there tells you already it's a joke.

I for one am delighted with these developments! I mean more than likely the 2 dont have the virus and likely returned with negative tests and simply refused to pay the corrupt pricings placed on the stay... when a hotel ownership chain is in ccontract with government.. you know there's something not right. Id love to know how many rooms these hotels would successfully be selling atm if not for this contract.. and at what price? 156 per might? Classic notions

The fact of the matter these 2 have done more for the people of Ireland than they could have possibly imagined by highlighting the extreme incompetence of this regime once again... they achieved more than any protest could. Rather than asking the government to hold their hands up.. you have to force them to.. unfortunately thats always been the way here!

I get the intent here... and respect the application of the quarantine rules.. but their costs aren't justified.

As someone that would have very personal reasons to travel to one of these countries and would be hoping to at some stage this year.. its honestly now made it unlikely feesable for that to happen... they've shown that they have just as much control over hotel occupants as those in their homes quarantining... surely they could design a phone app that inputs your phone gps for the 2 weeks with an alarm to officials for breaking your boundary.. i know people could leave without their phone... but honestly, who goes far without it these days anyway?

May not be a plausible idea.. but would likely work just aswell as this joke of a system

Not to mention the havoc which may occur should one positive case get transmitted through these hotels and then you have a fully blown breakout

I mean some of the people who have to do this, come off the same plane with those that don't depending on where they are coming from!? That's honestly the stupidest thing I've heard about all of this haha

The whole point of the expensive pricing to deter people from travelling

If it was €30 a night for two weeks, then people would be willing to take the hit to go travelling

The responsibility for supervising the "guests" rests with the private security company, who have no power of arrest or detention, and have to call the guards. The Army LO is there to keep the peace, and administer the process, again with no power of arrest or detention. It must be very easy to walk out of the hotel, windows, fire escapes, front door even. I suspect the Guards are not in place at the hotel, as the quarantine legislation is dubious, and they can only intervene after the "guests" have escaped.

Could they not draft in the army to provide security on this hotel, aid to civil power would give them the authority to arrest anyone leaving and a great big dirty fine for anyone who tries?

The entire thing is a shambles; inadequately thought through and poorly implemented, but this week will see a thorough review because of strong public criticism.
