"Own it! When you are in a position where you like/want to be called a slut (usually bedroom) then act like one, if it suits your mood. If it's in public, deck the fucker that said it and then ask them what right they think they have to make a moral judgement on you in public. Key point - deck them via punch to jaw or kick to crotch first, before they ever think it might happen and then, act reasonable and have a discussion " Off topic maybe and I'm assuming it was said tongue in cheek but does this also apply if the person calling you a slut is a woman or is it only acceptable to kick or punch out when it's a man?

"Apologies for provocative name of the thread, but I couldn't put it any other way. Responding to a different thread got me thinking about what exactly does a word slut mean to different people. I've been called a slut for turning someone down. Been called a slut for dressing a certain way. Been called a slut for having had more than 3 previous relationships. Been called a slut for having more than 20 sexual partners. Been called a slut for having a one night stand. Been called a slut for being a swinger. What I take from it is no matter what I would have ever done in my life - if I wouldn't have married my first boyfriend and dressed in baggy curtains for the rest of my life- anything I do- I'm labelled as a slut. What is your own personal definition of the word "slut"? " The sorry thing about society is that if Dirk had written this post the implied tone of the word slut would equate to hero, legend etc. etc.

"The sorry thing about society is that if Dirk had written this post the implied tone of the word slut would equate to hero, legend etc. etc. " Yeah, lets not get started on how 'popular culture' is used to reshape and reinvent things and just generally twist the mindset of the masses...
"Slut and the C word are horrible words and shouldnt be used in any context. Thats my old fashioned view anyway." Notveryshy - from your listed interests "Adult Parties, Anal, Blindfolds, Cuckolding, Dogging, DP, Gangbangs, Group Sex, Making Videos, Oral, Rimming, Role Play, Safe Sex, Same Room Swapping, Separate Room Swapping, SM, Soft Swing, Spanking, Swingers Clubs, Taking Photos, Threesomes, Toys, Voyeurism, Watersports" These all fit within your "old fashioned" views then?

"Nice thread to start a sunny morning. I love mixing sex and art. It makes a great concoction. I was recently working on a research about the influence of "primitive" practices in the expressionist art of the begginning of the 20th century. I checked the Tate museum website and I was so glad to find that they had removed the description for this term because of the misinterpretation and negative connotation of the word. Such a great advance to support and an example that many people will follow. We all have allowed to evolve many fields in our societies, like science, education, human rights, etc. Why can't language evolve? Because we do not allow it. Reclaiming terms that once meant abuse and are owned by the people it once stigmatised it is a defiant action. Taking the power away from the oppresor is revolutionary. " Dude - language evolves constantly. Every year the Oxford English dictionary makes a big hullabaloo about the new words it's introduced. The use and meaning of words evolve constantly too, the one that springs readily to mind is "Faggot" initially meaning a bundle of sticks. (thank you South Park) Language is one of the most fluid and versatile things in the world. Look at American English vs The Queen's English.

" Hmmmm funny and true but also depends on the individual's perspective. South park would be out of my sources of consultation. I'll see wholesome evolution when there's no oppression by the use of language " Language is a tool. It has no preference for use beyond being utilised. Like a hammer. We can use the hammer to build... Or destroy.... The hammer doesn't give a shit. Language can be used to build or destroy, lift up or oppress. This is not the tools fault but that of the wielder. If you wish language to be used for betterment you must first address the intentions of the they who use it. So if I call a sexual partner a slut because it excited her - this shouldn't be an issue. If I call her a slut to hurt her feelings it is an issue. But the word itself is blameless.

I could go on about the use of other descriptors; how the intent (how the tool is wielded) reflects the meaning; how the perception of the recipient is of vital importance. It is perhaps for all these reasons that a word such as slut can convey many meanings?

" Reclaiming terms that once meant abuse and are owned by the people it once stigmatised it is a defiant action. Taking the power away from the oppresor is revolutionary. " I agree! I happily own the term slut for this reason. If a slut is supposed to be an insult for a woman who is promiscuous ... OK, I'm promiscuous? And? What's wrong with that? It's one of these slurs that loses its power once you embrace it. For me, the same goes for fat - yeah I am fat. I don't feel bad about that. Now what? Choose another insult because that one doesn't work on me. Marginalised groups constantly reclaim language in this way to take power from their oppressors - think of the words gay, queer, dyke, the n-word, tr**ny, fat, bitch... all words now used by those communities as neutral when before they were used as tools to harm them. That said, there's no onus on anyone to feel the same way or accept being called a name if it makes them uncomfortable. Also, the word slut should NEVER come out of a man's mouth to describe a woman who hasn't clearly consented to being called that. It's for women to reclaim, on their terms.

" Whoever were the ones who said those things to you are just SCUM and for me that's a worse word than slut, I don't call a woman it unless it's something they would request. I usually go with calling a lady dirty cause that's a much more relaxed phrase I think when being sexual. The word definitely has negative and positive vibes even maybe a bit less than the negative but I say if someone calls you it in a negative way, just say "thank you, I know I am" whether it's slut or something else derogatory. Those type of scum are always trying to know they upset you by your reply so. I don't get offended much by words for myself, more would for other people but like others it's not so easy to let it roll off ya but if you pretend it doesn't affect you that'll really annoy those scummy feckers

"Vulgar language just doesn't do anything for me and I've absolutely no interest in owning it. However if you rearrange the letters slut turns into lust which is way more acceptable. " I like your way of thinking .Lust is definitely more appealing to me as well .

What is your own personal definition of the word "slut"? " Thank you all kindly for your input, but I do need to clarify myself - I never said that it was only men who call women "sluts" men and women are equally guilty of this. I would even go as far as women do it more often as they have nothing to lose while if a man senses that a woman he may be attracted to may be on a looser side - he'll not burn his bridges by throwing insults (I'm talking real life, not fab general). Also the original question I asked about what does the word "slut" mean to you - what I really was asking is what criteria does a woman/man have to meet for you to call them a "slut"?

"To answer the original OP I'm not sure I've used it outside of the bedroom since I've grown older and more enlightened. In my younger days, I've used it in anger against another woman - in that case it was just one more angry word amongst several dozen that fell out of my mouth and as such i never thought about the definition. I rarely, if ever, used it as a descriptor. That being said, I've never challenged anyone else for using it either. " You've triggered a memory here from when I was 18 going on 19. A fellow student repeatedly called a quiet introverted girl a porn queen and a slut. I was one of the few who didn't laugh and when he had said it 4 or 5 times I did indeed challenge him on it and as a result our friendship ended that day. Two years later he joined the priesthood. That was the first of many times that I called people out for their behaviour but I'm not proud of the times I didn't.

"The word slut used in any context other than between two consenting adults is misogyny, plain and simple. The word is used in a derogatory context by men with low self esteem who feel threatened by a woman's sexuality" It is also part and parcel of internal misogyny and used just as often by women towards women.

" Yup and as long as we women keep on using it to insult and don't emancipate ourselves from that derogatory point of view of what it entails to be a sexually liberated woman we will always struggle. And the term quality over quantity is often used in the same context to set oneself apart from the rest of us sluts on here. As if it matters if you rake up 10 or 59 veris.

"Let's be honest every man on here looks at females as sluts they can sweet talk all they like but deep down it's exactly how they feel Que the white Knights " Interesting coment. So from my analysis you mean, All men here think you are a slut and the rest of women too. You are here to meet men (assuming you are straight or bi) even when they think you are a slut. Does that mean you dont give a f*c what they think and you still meet them for your own pleasure? That's a way of reclaiming
