I wonder if any archaeologists/ anthropologist have done a study of the sexual habits of past people and cultures. Or just the history of swinging. I do know that some claim the orgy was invented but the Romans. But I doubt that. I'd say people have had orgies before there was even a word for it. |

Recommend book Sapiens - Yuval Hariri first chapters deal with some of the above through an anthropologist view and how different “sapiens” developed matriarchal/patriarchal/monogamous/polyamory structures. |

Hubby is an archaeologist - loves his work. He says prehistoric sex is very difficult to know anything for certain, gender roles are a fairly recent and ever changing fad. We do know that Homo Sapiens and Homo Neanderthal mated and that they were very alike in their advancement - Neanderthals were sea voyagers for instance. Climate change was what killed the Neanderthal in the end. Sex practices are often theorised about but rather than ancient artefacts ‘of ritual fertility origins’ (stone dildos) there is little material culture to look at before Greek/Roman times. |

Think the South American native cultures left some fairly good evidence behind as well about their sexuality and rituals. Not all of it particularly appealing.... but it’s out there to be considered.
Plus North American native cultures also very in touch with the Mother Earth approach... seasonality and fertility rituals. All appear in modern history writings as patriarchal, but the respect for females and their power for bearing children was massively respected. Plus the females often played a huge “economic” role to keep the tribes fed and gathered foods. So many suggestions they had a very large influence in those early societies.
Stone dildo... any geologists around to suggest the best stone for that sort of thing... |

Polished marble I’d guess, why else would all those phalluses be snapped off the statues |

Yes, read Sex at Dawn. A brilliant read about the sex lives of our ancestors. |
