Well folks, looks like we're holidaying in Ireland again this summer. Last year we had summer mini-breaks in Sligo, Cork and Kerry - and it only rained incessantly on two of them, so we'll be going to Cork again this year!

Anyone got any other recommendations?

Can't go wrong with Donegal for walking and exploring and Wicklow is a very close second.

Somewhere in Co. Down

Cork is stunning I may be a bit biased tho. Down has also some amazing scenery.

I'm planning on trying to get away somewhere in Ireland this year as well for a few days so will be keeping an eye on this thread for ideas.

The Antrim Coast is good for days out, especially as there wont be as many foreign tourists this year, lots of locations were used for GOT there.

If taking my time and an overnight stay my favourite road in Ireland is The N71 from Cork to Killarney

The scenery is incredible and some great stops on the way

Garnish Island and a house nearby that has all sculptures up a forest walk / Hillside were memories

Plus I guessed you were talking about Sligo and Kerry for the incessant rain. Can't beat Killarney though in fairness ... rain, hail or snow

I had a lads weekend booked for last September but when that fell through I took my bike down to Waterford and spent three days cycling around. Did the greenway and all out around Dungarvan/Tramore. Fantastic spot so we've booked a house in dungarvan for late July. Something to look forward to. Also a long weekend in centreparcs in June but that's not looking good

I'm thinking of doing a coastal tour but it would take 2 weeks or so:

N11 taking in Wicklow, [* Avoca & Kilmacurragh],

Enniscorthy, Wexford Town, [* Kilmore Quay, (Saltee Chipper)]

Waterford (* Ardmore, * Hook Head, * Loftus Hall), Tramore (*copper coast drive), Dungarvan,

Youghal (* Goat's Island), Cork (* Garnish Island, *The Beara Peninsula, * Gougane Barra), Skibbereen (Mizen Head, * Beacon in Baltimore, * Lough Hyne), Bantry (* Bere Island and Dursey Island)

Killarney, Cahirciveen, (* Dingle peninsula, * The Black Valley, * Valentia Island, * Kilarney National Park, * Molls Gap, * Gap Of Dunloe) , Tralee, Kilrish, Ennis, Lisdoonvarna (Cliffs of Moher),

Galway, Salthill, Inismore, Cliffden, Inisbofin, Westport, Castlebar, Achill island, Ballina (*Downpatrick Head/Dun Briste),

Sligo, Donegal (*Slieve League), Letterkenny, Buncrana (Malin Head).
