Know a little about a lot or have an in depth knowledge of a few specific topics?
Personally I choose the first and am quite content to pick up snippets of information as I go on a wide range of subjects but I know others who prefer to study a particular subject for days, weeks or months.
Studying was never something that came naturally to me so I've never had a thirst for knowledge but that has never held me back.

"We live in a world that values specialisation but I think a broader knowledge base is more valuable to the individual. "
I agree, I know people with doctorates in obscure subjects who can barely navigate their way through everyday life. |

Not everyone that has studied or is specialised is a nerd who's unable to socialise and struggles in day to day life. The job world needs both the specialist and the all rounder, they have complete different tasks. |

I'm not talking specifically about those with doctorates or who study continuously as part of their chosen field.
It's more about everyday learning.
If I see something I've never heard of or don't understand I'll read an article or two at most and can walk away from it then.
Others though take a much more in depth approach and research it ad infinitum. |

Did I say everyone was? And that was agreement that a broader base is more useful for the individual themselves. |

There's an awful lot of useless meaningless information in our lives.
Without specialists in certain areas of medicine, technology and science we would not have evolved over the centuries
A bit of both is a good balance |
