Just an observation and I'm wondering if anyone has noticed it

We've one little dog left out of two and normally she'd be on her own in the house for a few hours a day as we'd all be out working/school/college and it never seemed to bother her

Now there's always someone at home ....usually 3 or 4 people.

However she frets if she's left alone too long

If she's put into the kitchen and locked in she's nearly crying after 15 mins

As long as she's in a room with any of us she's happy

She now wakes at least 2 hrs earlier everyday and barks to be let out and see someone near her when she comes back in

Anyone else's dog getting clingy

Haven't noticed any difference with the five dogs here. It's called separation anxiety.

My town

Yes I have a biscon she always was a needy dog, didn’t mind being on her own. Now she literally sit by the door whimpering if I have my coat on and yelps like she being battered when we leave . Once we home she goes mental then kinda sulks after cause we left her

Somewhere in Co. Down

Like others said it is separation anxiety. Dogs are social and don't like being left alone.

Get a cat they don't care how long you're gone.. Just need food and the odd pet and they're happy enough..

Neither do their owners

Whinging and whining due to not getting the attention you expect is a thing especially when puppies are involved.

Antrim Town

My eldest came home from uni at start of 1st lockdown last March and my terrier has barely left his side when he's at home.

Thankfully our work patterns mean the fur baby is only left alone for 2 hours at the most any given day, radio left on classic FM and blanket from sons bed help keep the anxiety down.

You reckon? Unless she's asleep, one of mine cries if I go in a different room, one follows me round the house constantly, another gets on my lap every time I sit down, and all 5 prefer to be in the same room as the hoomans even to sleep.

I’ve 2 fur babies who are great together.

I noticed you said you Have one left of 2, maybe the loss of his companion hasn’t helped the wee pet. Consider a friend for him?

My other dog died a while back and they were brother and sister but thats nearly 2 years ago

She's Maltese and absolutely gorgeous but no one wants to replace the one that died

I'd love a bigger dog like a golden Retriever or labrador

You’re not replacing the little one who died, you’re filling the space he left. Even if it was 6 months ago, your wee one still notices she’s alone.

My baby has no issues but doesn't get left for long periods usually anyway between all of us in and out with work and school. Even now with us all at home mostly she's the same chilled out girl she's always been

We got a kitten for our aging dog recently and the dogs got a new lease of life. The kitten is VERY vocal and roars to get fed every morning. But they are quite happy to be left together now for periods of time.

I've noticed the exact same thing both our dog and cat have become extremely clingy. Very demanding attention wise.

Hopefully it will be a more blended approach to work in future than back to the daily grind.
