The op clearly said these women were chatting to men on Facebook so they were obviously random strangers that they didn't know so maybe if they applied filters they wouldn't have issues. And you can't message private accounts on Instagram unless you are a friend.

can still get mail if account private on Instagram. You have to accept it. As for chatting to random strangers on Facebook or Instagram if people do they definitely opening that door but it still doesn't warrant the unsolicited pic. I guess no more than here. |

I also agree with this. My filters on Fb and insta prevent random dm's. It cuts out a lot of the creeps. But there's no way to avoid it on other apps like tinder or pof when you get chatting with someone new. |
