Hi all during the course of my working day I answer numerous phone calls however today I got a beauty but be warned the muppets on the other end aren't puppets

The caller was named Mark Gonzo apparently he works for the irish revenue service who had done an audit of my tax returns and found that I had paid €224.00 more than i owed every year over the last three years giving me an acumulative amount of €672.00.

If i could give him my credit card details he could immediately refund the overpayment to my account.

Now knowing my tax is dealt with by my accountant on the ROS system and any and all payments are done on that system I again asked his name

Mark Gonzo came the reply to which Iasked was he one of the muppets and if he was did he ever manage to get the leg over Miss Piggy he hung up on me

This guy rang from a Waterford phone number on reporting this to the gardai they knew of the scam and that the number didnt exist however they are doing it on a regular basis and unfortunately they get lucky every now and then

So be warned guys and dolls the muppet offering u a tax rebate on receipt of ur credit card number isn't a puppet his a scam artist named Gonzo

The amount of people that get conned out of money in this country is unreal. Anyone that has older family please warn them about these scams.

The regular ones are revenue/telephone providers and even ringing from your bank.

I actually had a similar but opposite scenario years back.

Matched with a girl on Tinder and I must have said how broke I was.

She said she worked in the tax office and asked for my full name and PPS number.

I was sceptical but obliged as I had nothing to lose anyway, and she told me I'm due 650 euro tax back and it should be in my account within 5 working days.

I wish all matches were like that

She probably took the 650 when she lost her job

"I love the one where they're from Microsoft and need to go into your system ...leave them on hold for ages and act the bollox with them "

I once had them on the phone for 45 mins. For every step they asked me to do I would leave the phone done for 5 mins pretending to do it. Eventually at the end they said to hit the Windows key and I said to them I cant find it. They started to describe it and I finally said that I had an Apple PC. The woman at the other went ballistic and started giving out about me wasting her time. I never laughed so hard

I havnt gotten one of those phone calls since

Friend of mine keeps a referees whistle by her land line phone and blows it down the phone, originally for a stalker she had trouble with but now used on scammers
