My dishwasher, and the previous couple, have had two sets of rails/runners for the top tray. I'd be surprised if yours didn't also have some ability to be raised.
Alternatively, stop using the lids of barrels as plates  |

Fecking dishwasher broke down at the weekend.
The company doesn't have any service engineers available during the lockdown and it might be obsolete anyway according to them
It's 5 yrs old ffs

I have the same problem with Hob Nobs.
I generally bite a small piece of it first, then it fits into the cup no problemo |
